Suspension ratio

Hello,

So I am looking to increase the travel on my 2015 Camber. Currently 110mm front and rear. If I increase the front to 130mm then I get a nice slack head angle. Which will probably make the bike less twitchy. Thing is though I can't really up my rear travel due to the attachment points on the frame. Which is kind of an issue as I reckon I would bottom out the shock before the fork as it has more weight on it.

I have searched google, but have yet to find anything talking about ideal ratios between front and back suspension. Any one in hubland have any ideas? Or advice?

Enjoy the riding this weekend.

Cheers

Just put on the longer travel fork, and don't worry about the rest of it.

The 2cm lift will not raise the BB enough to make you realise its raised.

If the amount of sag is set correctly at the back, there is no reason for it to bottom out

I've seen 140mm on plenty of 110mm Pygas.. I have a 107mm rear travel bike with a 120/160mm Talas on it... Honestly I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Isn't the camber geo built around a 110 to 130mm fork anyway?

I know this road. Its long frustrating and expensive.

My Advice?

Sell the Camber. Get a Stumpy or Trance.

This is something that I am actually considering. Initially my idea was to play around with the suspension setup and then see how the extra travel influences my climbing ability. And then start considering a full on longer travel bike

Thanks guys. Makes perfect sense

I believe it is as the option to increase the fork travel is there. I think to 140mm. Which is also, when you start comparing it to the cost of a new fork at least, a relatively low cost way to up the travel a bit

Just set the sag up nicely (don't ride it 'firm' like so many guys in this country) and the bike will eat up anything you throw at it.

My bike of choice is a steel 29er hardtail with a 140mm fork. It eats up trails like a hungry pregnant woman in a pancake and bovril shop.

Maybe ping Dan from iRide Africa. He rides his sparkly blue glitter Camber everywhere. I last saw it soaring over the 2m by 2m gap drop at the trail head of the Plumber line in Jonkershoek

Hahahahahaha, pancake and bovril hahahaha.

Thanks man, will see if I can have a chat with him. To be fair my LBS doesn't seem too concerned about the rear travel. I will have a look at the sag setup.

Pyga 110 refers to the rear travel

Considering that the camber is exactly the same frame as the stumpy, just with a different linkage, it'll be perfectly fine with a 140mm fork.

Thank you.. I'm pretty sure I said a 140mm fork on a Pyga 110mm.. I am sorry my wording wasn't precise enough.

I shall endeavor to be more explanatory in future so that everyone can understand without having to make unnecessary comments of 'correction'.

If you have a look at the 'problem' the OP has, you will see that he has specifically mentioned 110mm front and rear. I was pointing out that guys run bigger forks than his 130mm suggestion on 110mm rear travel bikes.

wait.... are you the Sheriff with a new name, or is there a new sheriff in town?!

Thanks guys. Think I will up the fork travel to 130 or 140. So just have to decide how far to go. @Jewbacca so your head angle on that Pyga is very slack? And the bike is obviously no where near as twitche as my Camber with only 110mm out front?

Seriously considering previous advice on buying a Stumpy. Except that I was even thinking to rather get an Enduro, and smack it with 160mm travel and then put the Camber back to 110 and use it as my XC bike. Whats that rule of N+1 on bikes? Hahahaha, hope my wife understands that!

Bruh , that was intended for noobs maybe wanting to do the same.

the "mm" after 110 made it quite clear to me you understand what you're talking about.

now please chill TF out and go watch some downhill/ TDF
