Di2 XTR Inferior Product Quality?

My Di2 battery on my XTR gave problems again 8 months from buying a new battery at R2400. The local agents in South Africa #Coolheat refused to do a warranty claim as they say it is moisture damage.

How is this even possible on a premium MTB product?

So this product is then an inferior product, right? And preferably should not be used on MTBikes, and as it is the same battery being used on the road-bike system, I guess better you do not ride in the rain much.

Where then is the warning when one buys the electronic group-set to stay away from water, rain, moisture, washing your bike etc..

How can you sell a MTB product that cannot handle water/moisture, not even for a 12 month period.

Have Di2 on both my road bike and TT bike, RB has seen a fair bit of rain without issue, I have an internal battery.

Your battery internal or external?

Internal - I also have it on my roadbike, no issues yet, but then the roadbike does not see moisture so much.  This is just a downer as it is a great product, but time to drop Shimano for ever...  That will be four bikes moving to SRAM, but they will not care...

Apologies, least I can do before making silly jokes is to contribute to your question.

I am not sure its a Shimano thing or maybe just your setup rig? Several mates, as well as my old man have XTR Di2, and none of them have had this battery issue.

Did somebody not maybe take a high pressure hose to your very nice bike, at some point in time? Normal "rain" doesn't seem to negatively affect the batteries. There must be an anomaly with your setup, either that or you are just very unlucky.

Have you approached Shimano International?

We all know the local suppliers of most brands are close to useless.

Before slamming the brand maybe speak to them first?

**just a suggestion**

SRAM electronic shifting on an MTB? i'm willing to get that the Shimano mtb electronic shifting is infinitely better than SRAM's.  :whistling:

LOL... Anything to make me feel better is good, thanks.

The internal battery is in a Sworks seatpost on an Epic. No way you can get a high pressure hose to it. At least I think not...

Hmmmm, the plot thickens. Do you use one of those things?

Be careful if you do. Many a good component has been ruined by a WAP.

I am trying to... love the brand, but you are as good as your rep in the area. We all know that...
