EmJayZA Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I read an article this weekend, and thought the psychology is interesting. I do relate to some degree. https://www.outsideonline.com/2229791/why-are-most-endurance-athletes-rich What's your reason for participating or racing endurance events?
Duane_Bosch Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I blame Apartheid. Now hear me out on this. When we were lighties growing up isolated from the world the entire country came to a standstill on Comrades day. We all watched national hero's like Bruce Fordyce doing his thing. Suffering was worshipped. To become a "man" you went to the army and k@kk3d off for 2 years. Suffering is ingrained in our consciousness. Now we're grown up, got a bit of $ so what do we do? We pay 35k and wake up at 4am and train for months on end to cr@p in a porta loo and eat koshuis food and ride the Epic. That sounds a LOT like the army to me. My 2c.
BaGearA Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I'm good suffering and tend to enjoy it A little because of that ....I'm no pro racer , enduro rider who does the odd marathon
shaper Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 For me doing triathlons, the regime and self discipline required, the structure, the determination to compete and finish and to overcome both pain and fatigue. Add in the determination to get better! All of the above and more not only gives me a self satisfaction but also feeds back into me with a certain confidence that also reflects back in my business life as a business owner.
Jurgens Smit Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I love food, so I'd be quite fat if I didn't. Cycling just does it for me.
