It seems that that we cant go racing even anymore.. cause the crooks are between us.. always on the lookout for a quick score.. i hope you get it back.. this makes me so bedonnerd...

This is a new modus operandi that started around 2 years ago. The crooks walk around the finish area of races with cycling kit on, knowing that the competitors are tired, relaxed and off their guard. They pounce on a bike left alone at the toilets, etc, by just walking up to the bike, climbing on it and riding away.

I have instructed my whole family to keep their bikes under their supervision at all times, and if they have to go to a toilet, ask one of us to look after the bike.

This "thought process" must become the norm in all facets of cycling, unfortunately, the old cliché of "expect the un-expected"

This is just so ridiculous

I often leave my bike unattended at the bike wash areas or take it to the bike park area at these races.

I guess this changes things again

The last race I attended that had a bike park, had a notice that they do not accept responsibility for bikes stolen or damaged in the bike park. WTF is it there for then?

It's not necessarily a case of the crooks walking between the cyclists dressed like cyclists. It is cyclists stealing from each other. The guy in the start chute next to you may just be the guy that steals your bike.

Stone me if you want, but I reckon it is people riding bikes that are stealing bikes.

And there are people buying bargains in the classifieds knowing that it may be stolen or stripped off a stolen bike.

Well, if that's the case, I hope they lose the saddle before landing a particularly large jump  :whistling:

Else, it'd be a real shame if someone was to say.... do a sting operation at a race like this.... and keep a few immobilizing inner tubes and incapacitating track pumps handy... just saying... a real shame

I tend to agree Philip. Especially when the bikes stolen are very specific performance bikes.

I have just confiscated the bike in my Cash Crusaders Belhar store when a Nigerian asylum seeker tried to sell the bike with falsified documents.  Already spoke to the owner of the bike and she is over the moon.

He must be intellectually challenged to think he was going to be able to swing a 2018 bike at Cash Crusaders, especially with an informed and awake owner.

Good job!

makes my weekend when a fellow citizen gives a bad guy his rewards (and recovers a fellow cyclists bike)
