You would have to have the latest version of the Kickr. Older models wont work with it.

Not sure if you can answer this, but why is it not backwards compatible? I was really under the impression that KickR 1 and 2 ran the same software? I cant imagine it being an actual hardware issue making it not backwards compatible?

Not software related.

 

It's got to do with rotation on the dropouts of the bike.

Old kickr clamps pretty hard there, new kickr introduces a form of a spacer which won't cause damage to the bike.

Is there any way to make this work with a non wahoo trainer if you overcome the rear pivot issue ( which can be done quit easily on a non direct drive trainer that's work with a rear wheel...)

 

So does this devise has its own bluetooth / ant plus receiver or must one wire connect it to a Kickr 2017?

You should really read the write up by DCRAINMAKER as will answer most of your questions, from what I read and can gather this climber will be a slave unit from the kickr and takes electronic protocol instructions with regard to gradients from the kickr, I did not read anywhere where it is ANT+ FEC-C, so that can be controlled by other apps or trainers

Only watched Rainmaker's youtube video on the Climb.

Logic tells me anyway there will be no way to use this unit without the new Kickr....haha.

Wahoo wants our money.

 

Lets hope for some third party devices in near future.

We will have both options available, bundles will make more sense at launch as they have to work together as a start.

This is something they are considering, but is not on the roadmap at the moment. Your training software connects with KICKR and the KICKR connects wirelessly to the CLIMB via ANT+.
