Washing a mountain bike in Cape Town

I have a bike wash down to 750ml per wash now. I fill up a bottle with a spray head, wet the bike, apply some bike cleaner (muc off), let it do it's work for about 3mins, spray all of the soapy mess off with water in spray bottle again, and wipe down with damp cloth. Use a dry towel to get everything shiny.

For all the greasy parts I use a cloth with degreaser to get all the grit off before I start the clean, and a park tool chain cleaner/chain pig with degreaser in it for the chain and cassette.

It's a mission and takes a bit more time, but with the current water crisis cleaning a mtb, no matter how expensive, cannot be a priority at the cost of 10 or 20 liters of water!

Welcome to Cape Town, looking forward to seeing you on the trails some time, shout if you need help with anything

I'm a massive capetonian water warrior, put my grey water system in in 2011.

But I'll use drinking water to wash my bike way before borehole. I only really waiting drivetrain and forks too, and use a bucket and elbow grease.

Mindlessly spraying with the hose doesn't clean it anyway, same with high pressure spray.

Thank you! I will definitely take you up on the offer :)

For me Stellenbosch is home, studied here for 7 years before heading to Pta for the missus. Finaly coming back (well to Somerset West) in Jan. Here on holiday at the moment though. The riding here is just incredible!

I live in Somerset West. Shout if you need someone to show you around the trails or to go drink a beer with (preferably after a ride.)

Coathanger, so lucky we had lots of rain recently.

Feel for you guys in CT, its a hell of a problem to have water shortages.

I think the whole of SA had a bit of a wake up call, definitely people more aware of using water more responsibly.

Got 2 jojo tanks, one with municipal water for outages, plumbed into house pipes with a pressure pump. 2500 litres.

Saved us huge amounts of drama, has been used often, had two occasions when municipal water off for 4 days and more.

Second tank is filled by rain from a gutter that thows a huge amt of water from my roof, crazy how much water comes off the roof when it rains, use this for garden. 1500 litres

Hope you guys lots of rain soon !!!
