Just seeing what knowledge / thoughts are out in hubland regarding the Fox DHX RC4 Factory coil for trail / enduro riding. I was looking at CC inline coil but missed out on it and have seen this one in the right size but don't know how it squares up. The CC inline was billed as 'a coil for trail bikes'... this one I've not found too many reviews on.

I know it seems to be a pretty DH focused shock but the reason I was interested in it was in the development of the new SBG idea Transition were running their development Smuggler with one.

Oh the only thing is it won't fit on a frame that is designed around metric shocks.

Not a problem on mine. Any idea what springs cost locally?

Why exactly do you want to add a bunch of weight to your bike AND ruin pedaling efficiency? Unless you're planning a Bike Park trip I wouldn't bother. Unless you are on a gravity orientated bike (Reign, Nomad, Tracer) and see yourself as a downhill focused guy don't waste your money.

Yes a lot of the guys on the ews are running coil but they have remote lock outs and they're much stronger than normal human beings.

FWIW I have one of those on my DH bike and it's a great shock. But putting it on a bike you have to pedal uphill? No.

You can tune the ramp up with that blue air assist dial but if you have a frame that ramps up by design (Turner DHR for example) you'd leave that open.

Truthfully I want to see what a rear coil is like, just to mix it up and see how it goes. A few people who I know have been having great experiences with a variety of coils on the back for day to day riding in places like Jonkers and Tokai, Paarl etc. You've got to go up to come down tho!

Trying to find a 190x50 coil is like hens teeth so when I saw this at a good prices and didn't know squat about it I turned to the brains trust for advice.

If it's cheap and an experiment, go mad - my guess is you'll last exactly 2 rides.

It'll descend like a beast but you'll earn every millimetre of ascent.

For sake of <insert fancy word>

How mush does the shock have on now weigh ? ( air shocks are VERY light I know ) but like in how much grams ?

And how much does that coil ( the entire shock)  weigh ?

They are not that heavy without the coil, although a ti coil makes the weight bout 600Gramshttp://www.sicklines.com/gallery/data/529/fox_dhx_rc4_9_5.jpg
