First off, it was WAY faster than 15km/h more like 18-19km/h, secondly it might have been flat but there were rocks...just joking.

This can happen. I demonstrated it nicely this weekend.

So, me and the wife go for our last strenuous ride up Helderberg. Whilst doing the Granny Forest loop, I fiddled with something on my bibs, one hand on the handlebar. I hit a soft spot of dirt on the trail, the handlebar twisted and I went OTB spectacularly to land on the soft, leafy dirt. I almost laughed my arse off but wife was not impressed. She got a fright and thought my shoulder was off, which would end our W2W ride prematurely. Lucky I have been conditioned how to fall since I did amateur wrestling when I was a boy. So, no harm done.

Actually i did crash at last years W2W. on the first day we were gunning it to get in front of some slower guys and i was behind my partner and we were going through a rocky area (can't remember where exactly) the trail snaked through some bigger boulders and i over cooked a corner and my outside pedal caught the rock and threw me over the bars, bike came with, did a bolamakiesie and I landed on top of the bike again.

Thinking my W2W is over i got up looking down my whole bike landed in between the rocks without hitting any of them. My bottle cage in the triangle was crushed on a rock but nothing else was touched.

Car transport to race village and finish organised.

Going to make sure the car has all the tools, work stand and spares. Especially tyres. And extra blankets.

Weatherwise it looks like we are going to get fried a bit.

Going to have to stay hydrated.... maybe a bit of overkill?  Other option.. create more shade..

Temperatures for this weekend are looking fine and mild?? A bit warmer in afternoons but quite manageable methinks. The wind on the other hand is quite breezy!!  :whistling:

The Ride will have increased temps, esp. Tuesday and only some wind.

The Race - too early to tell.

Over and out from the weatherman

ps wish I was riding too....

Ok just went through the 2017 FNB W2W Ride Newsletter.

It is confirmed, that there is a cut-off every day at 1pm @WP3.

That is a bit rough for Day One. The other 2 days is fine. Most, if not all the climbs on Day 1 is before WP3. And if I look at the results for last year, the majority of the field came in at between 5h30 and 6h30. If you leave as part of the last batches at 8h30, it only gives you 4h30 to get to WP3.

PS: It actually makes f_all sense. They then give you 4 hours to get to the finish from WP3, which is the easiest part of the day. Somebody should actually query them about it.

Was this the same for previous years?

that is only a 11km/h

and they are not that strict on the Ride and Adventure

Given, I can handle 14 - 15km/h, but we will lose chunks on the portage, and since we start only in J batch, will be stuck behind walking people on some ST sections. We will obviously try and push it on the first long climb without overdoing it.
