ReemsZA Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I managed to strip the thread on my crank arm, and am wondering if it would be strong enough to ut in a helicoil. Otherwise it's a crank arm replacement. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
David Marshall Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 If it is the left side you may struggle to get a LH thread helicoil. Put an add in the wanted classifieds with the crank length - maybe someone who has bought a crank arm power meter will still have his old one.
ReemsZA Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Hi, agreed and it is the left hand crank unfortunately. A few engineering guys say it will be strong enough but the problem being none have the right size tap or left hand heli. Def will post to see if anyone has a crank arm to suit.

Ask your LBS whether they don't have old cranks removed from a bike to sell to you for a packet of chips and a coke. Bike shops are not keen to market this but I have purchased many parts like this, just explain what you need and they should assist.
ReemsZA Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 Went on a serious recce around Jozi and Cpt to try find a crank arm, but what I thought would be like changing a windscreen wiper, is not to easy.Upside is I have learnt a lot about crank sets, and DEFINITELY what not to do when swopping pedals, as 2min error is costing some serious shackles. Thx to Hotspot for getting so much info, and Lynne Products for great input. Supplier crank arm only avail end Jan but in the meantime have solution.
