E Bike Project .

My good mate , a off road biker  ( not a cyclist ) wants to build up a E bike . I have suggested he buy a  dual suspension second hand MTB   for comfort reasons . The E bike kit from my research shows that the mid mount to crank gives the best power and gearing options . The kit can be bought on line locally or imported . The build we will do together as i have all the tools required for bicycle repairs . Any further  suggestions will be appreciated .

I'd say just bike A purpose built one , atleast you'll get after sales support and warranties ect.

He is a retired 50 year old who enjoys a trip to a pub or coffee shop  once or twice a week . He works from home and just wants to get into town ( Edenvale ) with out being hassled by Metro lunch mongers .

eBikes are PERFECT for this type of user.

 

 

What will all the parts cost you ? Then no warantee ....

 

 

For about R30k you can buy a brand new eBike.  Granted at this price point it will be a hardtail.

 

but with plus size tires and low pressures it should serve him well.

We are weighing up the options cost wise against warranty .  I dont think there is legislation in place for riding a bicycle over the legal alcohol limit ( well at least you wont get stopped in a road block or harassed by the Metro  ) and that is one of the reasons for  using a E Bike .

 He has 4 other motor bikes having done a few 8 or 10k trips through Africa . KTM 660 and 990 come to mind .

How about no.

 

He is a responsible drinker and in fact never drives to the pub ( wife fetches and carries him ) Edenvale is notorious for the SAP or Metro harassing motorist during the day or night with threats of arrest and other weird laws they conger up to extract bribes . I on the other hand am  a " tea totaler " and drive a V8 and love challenging them .  HAHA
