Howdy.

Does anybody have some advice/ideas on how to cover a scuffed crank. I've seen a few branded options but I prefer a blank stealth unbranded look.

Vinyl wrap? Cheap at your local China town.

Heat shrink? (not sure if you get it that thick)

You do from electronic stores ( communica ) but I doubt it will last very long

How do you reckon, would vinyl covered by clear frame protector stickers hold up?

I've recently discovered Alcolin Silicone tape. It comes in various colours, stretches up to 3x in length and only sticks to itself. I've used it on my bike as a chainstay and seatstay protecting wrap and so far I am very impressed. I used black which looks very stealthy. Only issue is that fine dust settles on it very quickly making your bike look dirty, although it could be wiped off easily.

Maybe you could wrap it thinly around your crank arms...?

It depends if the OP's shoe rubs the crank arm as he pedals , if that does happen nothing will last

My shoes don't touch my crank arm so I recon quality black vinyl will go a long way , but it can be easily damaged by flying rocks

Heat shrink will hold up to rocks but become brittle eventually and start like flacking or cracking I guess ( also dependent on quality and thickness)

this sounds like the best option to me

What cranks are you using? I have a cutter and some decent gloss black vinyl (matte black sadly tends to be more brittle)... happy to mock something up and give it a try over the weekend.

Alternatively, if crank is already scuffed, a layer of black vinyl under a layer of ARLON SERIES 3590 "Abrasion Resistant Overlaminate"... should be pretty much up to most abuse - used a lot to protect enduro motorbike graphics. Just need a template and a signmaker willing to cut it for you...
