Permits on Handlebars

i always wrap some of that protective film around my bars where either cableties or velcro goes ..then you never get scratches on bars. I also put a small piece of double sided tape ( a very rubbery/silicone ) type on the handle bar stem nuts so then the board also dosent rub up and down.

Had a similar problem a while ago. I made this using some reflector mounts that came on my bike. Number board can be swopped between bikes with a single screw. Its more work than velcro but its very secure and zero rubbing on the handlebar, potentially ruining its finish.

That's very nice!

For multiple boards you could just attach one blank board with velcro on it and then put velcro on the back of the ones you want to swap out.

I ride plenty of test bikes, and mostly early mornings, so I keep my membership board in my pack, that I don't have to move it over every single time.

Luckily my local trail's honesty permits is just the little page from the book and the trail center only opens when I'm already at my desk.

I have a year permit, but since I ride early mornings, no one has ever asked me for my number board, I'm assuming that they assume I dropped cash in the honesty box and have the slip in my pocket, and if they were to ask, I can produce my membership board, but they don;t so I don't...

Not a perfect system, and sure there's plenty of ways to make temp mounts, but I also don't want the board on photos and videos I take of test bikes.

If you break up a old broken light or "whatever" used to fit in a clamp like that, you could screw fix the board to the male part and then simple click in and out of the female part of the clamp ... nice and quick release solution.

As mentioned already Velcro Straps, alternatively request a duplicate of your membersip board & offer to pay for it.

:offtopic: Just a side note, not aimed at the OP but for the guys that swear it must not go on the handlebars, remember where the board goes when you participate in Race Events, you gladly put it wear it is meant to be displayed no questions, no arguments. Also if you ride with a membership board everyday then Race Days it won't feel like you are riding into a headwind with a garage-door strapped to your handlebar. #useitdontuseit

I wish I rode fast enough in races for the board to make some difference [emoji23]

+ 1 for Velcro straps here. Those mounting boards on other places than what the trail owners prescribe is making unnecessary waves for law abiding trail users. While it seems trivial to you, it is one of the conditions you agree to when signing up. If you don’t like the rule, apply for a departure.

As I mentioned, doesn't seem trivial to me at all... Once it was brought to my attention I was more than happy to oblige. Hence me looking for a solution. Not sure if that post was maybe aimed at someone else?

That is an awesome idea! I quite like the look of it, especially in that it does not rub the handlebar. With the board against the bar it creates a bit of a problem with lights for night riding and a gopro mount - this will 100% solve that problem.

I have gotten some velcro pump straps from Sportsman's Warehouse as suggested, but I am going to try put something like this together. Thanks for sharing!

It is not aimed at you in particular. I just see it far too often where people pick and choose which rules they wish to obey and which ones they choose to ignore.

Definitely makes sense in your context. And I initially thought I would do the same thing, but after being stopped 5 times in a single ride at Bottelary I realised that displaying the board on the handlebars is quite important here. Makes sense, because even day permit users have to display on handlebars - just easier for Marshalls and land owners to control access - which I agree with. I have met waaay too many guys that abuse the Honesty Box systems - real *ssholes if you ask me - alot of effort goes into building trails.

Many trails also have surveillance cameras that is set up to capture bikes from the handle bars up to try and identify rogue riders. Mounting your board (say) on your fork lower will end up with your mug splashed all over Facebook.
