I've been asked to help sell a road bike for a non-hubber, but the problem is I've very little knowledge of road bikes, and the seller also has no idea what the bike is worth. We were thinking ~ R7500. Is this a fair amount, or are we way off? The bike is a Trek OCLV Carbon 5200 (2003 model I think), Shimano Ultegra groupset, carbon cranks, carbon rims (Rolf Vector Comp). The bike is in very good condition, regularly serviced, but it does have a couple of general wear and tear scuff marks and some of the paint peeling in 1 or 2 small spots. Cheers in advance

Carbon has a lifespan.

Andrew Steer Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 I'd agree that you're unlikely to get much more than R6k... great bike though, performance wise it's better than a new R10k bike, but people don't work like that and spares will be a challenge when anything goes wrong. The wheels are old tech aluminium and a broken spoke or hub problem could quite possibly not be fixed, and if it could, would be a hassle and expensive. The groupo is not to be compared to a modern Ultegra set, is not 11 or 12 speed (may even be 9). Groupset is not complete Ultegra but has Truvativ cranks. All these mitigate against getting anything near its "functional" value.
