Roval Control SL Rims - Good or Bad?

I have only heard good things about the rims. Apparently one of the better ones. Maybe try something like cSixx FOAMO (a rim protector) in future or up your tyre pressures a bit.

Are you on the heavy side? What tyres and tyre pressures are you running?

In terms of other suggestions, cSixx can take a beating and then some! Also have a very good breakage warranty, and as far as carbon goes, is not too badly priced.

Hey Grease_Monkey, my last weigh-in before the Mcgregor vs Mayweather fight was 88kg.

I think my tyre pressure was 1.8 but not 100% sure

Check the accuracy of your pressure gauge - they are often WAY out. My parktool guage at 1.8 is about 1.2 on an accurate one....

I also think with carbon rims you have to keep checking spoke tensions - they seem to loosen up over time - then the wheel is not going to last at all - irrespective of the supplier.

I rode Roval wheels both RIMS the spokes pulled through. The front RIM was replaced under warranty but they refused to replace the rear under warranty so I started testing my own wheels and couldn't have made a better decision

I have ridden the Roval Carbon Control and the Carbon Control SL over the past 4 years. In that time I cracked 1 rim(SL version) and in retrospect I think it was due to a flattish rear tyre.

These rims are extremely strong and have served me well over more than 30,000km. As long as you maintain them and ride accurate tire pressures you should be fine.

i used to weigh 105kgs and never cracked mine. in fact i am looking for a second set to keep as training wheels

I have a set for sale in the classifieds. I upgraded to the new 25mm version when I got my new frame 2 weeks ago.

Hi hubbers,

I'm posting this because today was the second time I've cracked my Roval SL Rims.

Any other suggestions on carbon rims?

At your stated weight, you need to make sure you run decent tyre pressure. I'm in the same range and run close to 2 bar out back - thats with a 2.6 tyre and 170mm of travel to help. On a marathon bike, you haven't got that kind of protection. I think you also need to be religious about monitoring your tyre pressure. Tubeless always leaks a bit  so a pressure check every few days is a must.

Out of interest, what did the upgrade cost you?

A custom build with cSixx or South rims on Hope hubs goes for around R18-20k

I got a great deal on them as part of the bike build which put them in the same price range as the cSixx and South options and the rovals was the lightest out of the 3 builds AFAIK.
