PE Incident - Strange Details

Good morning,

A good friend of mine (Brink Eksteen) was involved in an incident in PE this morning, we are still trying to piece together the info. I will post as much as I know and ask for any info - witnesses.

He arrived at the Walmer Police Station this morning just after five, on foot. He had his helmet on (shattered), bleeding from his right ear(later got stiches in this) and a shattered right shoulder (ascertained in hospital later). He had his backpack on, Garmin strapped to his wrist and phone in his pocket.

He was dazed and confused, does not know how he got there and suffers from some sort of memory loss.

I have been analyzing his ride on Strava. Everything was as per normal (he commutes from Lorraine to Summerstrand every day) and it looks like the incident happened across from the Walmer township, speed dropped to almost zero and stuttered around for about two minutes between 2 and 6 km/h. The strange part is this. The speed starts picking up and he is travelling up to 55km/h through the suburb and ends up at Walmer Police Staion. Looks like he was loaded into a vehicle and driven there but nobody accompanied him into the station as far as we know and his bike is missing.

He was using his Black Merida mountainbike with green decals.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I would start by going back to where the speed dropped and see if there are no broken bicycle or bicycle parts lying around (indicating that he might have been hit by a car).

Thanks Gen. There have been a couple of incidents in PE over the last couple of months. I'm hoping he regains his memory...he is currently at the hospital waiting for a surgeon to operate on his shoulder.

I work with a few security companies in PE. Is it okay if I ask them to have a look at this as well? Can you give me the exact location opposite Walmer township, as a start point for them?

Shattered shoulder and damage to the helmet sounds like a bad crash rather than assault? Maybe hit by a vehicle? The fact that he has his cellphone and garmin means he probably wasn't robbed,

He lost the bike somewhere / got stolen after he fell, and someone picked him up and dropped him off at the police station.

Edit: read the story again and I was wrong about the increase in speed.

Thanks a lot, not sure whether you will be able to access this or whether the link will word.

It happened just after Victoria Drive (10th Avenue) intersection with Buffelsfontein on the way to the beach.

Most probably was involved in an accident with car. Driver of another car stopped to help him. Bike was probably a write-off, and thus left at the scene.

Only plausible explanation I can think of.

I also thought of this but why would whoever droped him off at the police station not accompany him and help him inside?

Maybe the driver who hit him took him to the station but then ducked? I know too much speculation...

And where is the bike. Guess it could have been picked up by someone els as well.

Are there no CCTVs at the cop shop? They might have footage of the people who dropped him off?

There should be. But the end of the 'ride' also looks very strange. I know the devices aren't 100% accurate but some strange paths taken at the end...

Something strange going on.

It takes him 23secs to go from 32km/h to 0 and there are some crazy elevation percentages at that point to like -23%. The last part of the ride looks very much like it was in a vehicle.

OP Please create a segment for the suspected accident zone so we can get better info.

There must be a building on that route with CCTV (the FNB, Superspar, bottle store, SAPS etc) - you know exactly what time he was going past each building so should be possible to identify the vehicle.
