Think they will have to consider allowing registration on the morning even if it is just to hand out the stickers. Assuming they could not get the correct people thereis there were issues with registration

Ā

The event facebook page says they will have Racetec there on the morning to process registrations...

I think its a sensible way to go. You pay the weight penalty for the extra durability but thats a compromise worth making in my view, particularly in the middle of the field.

Ā

The 7500 is a big number though. Depends on how much sand, grit, dust one gets and leaves on it and thats a function of weather and trail conditions and also how long each ride is. And how willing one is to risk a breakdown to repair a broken link.

Ā

10k ?! Heavens no, my bike cost me R9k. New drivetrain will be about R2k and lasts me at least 7,500km.

I think this will become one of my have to do races, it is a real feel good race for a good cause and combined with that

1) Parking was a breeze

2) Welcome tent at the start was a surprise (thanks Standard Bank)

3) The route markers and marshalls was on point (ok did hear one rider that were on the 45km instead of the 30km)

4) The floating bridge felt very safe and a joy to do at the end of the race

5) The entertainment area was also well supported with a range of vendors that could provide something to drink or eat, and shade.

Yes the merging of the routes probably caused some frustrations, but heck it is a fun ride also and sometimes you just wait for a while to pass the people in front of you, life will still go on.Ā  What I did realise it is all relative, there are always those stronger than you, and those slower. I might be closer to the backmarkers than the front markers, but when you merge with the shorter routes you do feel quiet strong (maybe one of the reasons by the end when it was getting close to the finish I was a bit sad that the race was about to end, felt like I could keep on riding a bit longer)

Looking forward to next year's race

LOL, I jinxed it. It was this massive rusty old nail, shred about a 2cm rip on the outside, when I took it off at home the nail was still stuck inside, right through the rim tapeĀ

Ā

Strange thing is, I have never had a puncture that led to a total deflation on this bike before except in 2016.... after STBB... when I was riding to my parents farm 3km away. Every other time I rode home - no issues. Guess what, today I was going to ride there again for my daughters birthday party.

Ā

So I think by not cycling home after STBB I'm bound to have a tyre failure.Ā  :whistling:Ā  But the old Chaoyang ran its course, Maxxis Forekaster going on tomorrow.Ā

Ā

Excellent ride today, I held back the pace after my sickness this past week and still enjoyed it very much.Ā
