osiris Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 So last year I bought a new bike and for various reasons decided on the new trail oriented Scott Spark. Getting the bike I knew that the frame protection is non existent, there is no BB protection or chainstay guard. Dunno if this was due to weight saving or what. I read numerous reviews and some reviewers mentioned this as a problem and one reviewer even cracked a frame due to a rock strike at the BB.I've never had bad rock strikes after years of riding and knowing this I decided to use those Lizard Skin tape protection kits on the BB and chainstay. Hindsight I dunno if it was due to the bike or my skills evolving but I was starting to look for more technical riding. So this passed weekend I went for a ride on a very loose and rocky trail and got a rock strike. The strike didn't sound too bad and I decided to continue and inspect any damage at home.Once home I checked the area and saw that there was a crack. I did a sound test with a coin and the sound is definitely muted around the cracked area.I'm still not sure if its a crack or just paint but I'm assuming the worse as the paintwork is matte.Planning to take it to a shop this weekend to have it assessed. What are my options, I'm assuming this is not warranty related?What BB guards can I get that won't give me this problem again, I would like something substantial like what the Camber comes standard with, that little extra weight is not an issue.
Skinnyone Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Definitely not warranty as it was not due to a manufacturing issue. In terms of guards, even a thin layer of rubber would help - it may also help hide any damage tho...
BaGearA Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 i use a an old tyre that was destroyed on the trails cut into a section that covers the BB and about A 3rd of the downtube , punch holes for cable ties or straps and bob's jou oom
