27-30 mm internal rims

They make up to 40 mm.  The enduro ones are tough as well.  I have built plenty of their rims. Not the cheapest (Chinese) but good quality and service.

Slightly off topic... I was looking at them and tossing them up but you hear so many cracking and breaking stories that it put me off. Maybe that's because when people shell out more coin on carbon rims and they damage them are more upset and like to tell people. Unlike when people damage alu rims it's almost taken as going to happen at some time in your riding and you either bend them back out or go get another one.

What's your feedback been from you clients in the way of reliability, suitability for SA and stiffness? Read an interesting article about DH riders down tuning their wheels a bit to get more flex back in and not pin balling through sections with super stiff bikes and super stiff wheels.

From my experiences with carbon, they are strong. I specced mine with slightly thicker wall thickness and no nipple holes (from XM Carbon), so they are pretty bullet proof and stiff as heck. I've heard of no failures in the group of guys I ride with and some of them are pretty heavy on the bike.

The stiffness is something I disliked at first - coming from an alu bike with alu wheels to a carbon bike with carbon wheels, it took time to adjust. Handling was all over the show and a I had a good few prangs. Now that I'm used to the stiffness and have the suspension and tyre pressures dialed in, I love the wheels (and frame). Very responsive and they power through rougher sections.

Check out the dt Swiss m502 on bike 24. I got a pair of rims and I'm really happy with them. 30mm internal width. I think I paid about R1500 landed for both.

thanks for that info...what hubs did you use with those rims ??

I built them onto my standard giant hubs. Which was one of the reasons why I went the bike 24 route, I was struggling to find good 28 hole rims locally. Far more 32 hole options. Another option is to replace the whole wheel set. Lyne components is worth investigating, they have recently launched a great looking wheel set at an unbelievable price.

ok cool, yes i checked the Lyne wheels but until they use brass nipples is a no go for me

Symetric. They drill no nipple holes in the bed of the rim and rather feed the nipples in via the valve hole. So no need for any tubeless tape, no sealant leaks, more rigidity.
