I used to stay in Leyton (E10) Confused, a minutes walk from E17.

Used to commute daily through Hackney all the way to the Westend. As soon as i neared the west city (around Angel area) it would be a race with the couriers for the front row at the traffic lights!

It's amazing that to this day' date=' bike couriers in and around London can earn a pretty decent living. [/quote'] I started off with this company called Dynamo, and people said it would take me 3-6 months to earn a decent living...

It took me three weeks, and I was the second highest earning courier in the company, I was earning about 250 pounds a week (not bad for 1990)

Every morning I reported in at Picadilly Circus at 07:00

and I finished every evening with a special London Courts delivery at about 22:00

There's 100's of them and they've are a law unto themselves with almost cult status. There's even bike courier races (Alleycat) mainly in the US but it's making it's way across to London. There's a couple of videos floating around the net worth a watch Ouch

I see Crux was still a softy Wink' date=' you're only a hardcore courier when you ride a fixed wheel with a single brake in the middle on the tops of your bars Clap [/quote'] Hey!! in those days, there were no couriers with Fixies in London, my MTB was state of the art, most couriers was riding with really crap old steel frame bikes

I don't believe you've truly attained a state of cycling-Zen until you've ridden every lousy day through a London winter Ying%20Yang

LOL I was two streets up, in Whitney Road!

Didn't the 48 go up HOE Street? You must have gone for a kebab along that stretch at least once??

I wonder how well or bad a bike courier business would work in Gauteng

I think it would be feaseble in the Rivonia / Sandton / Illovo / Melrose Arch  and Rosebank Areas, but not in the CBD.

Those Neon Oakley Razor Blades, mesh gloves and Cateye ATB computer bring back memories. I still have stuff like that. Mesh gloves are very hard to come by nowadays but I still love them. My Oakleys are now retired in a cupboard somewhere but I still have two of those exact same Cateye computers in daily use. They're indestructable and probably the second best product ever made by Cateye.

Their best product must be the CS 2000 Cyclosimulator. It is timeless, hasn't changed in 15 years (because there's nothing to improve on it) and just goes on and on and on.

Can't say I envy you having had to ride a bike in the UK all day long.

I took it at the Yeti stand at the 2003 Bike Show at the NEC in Birmingham. I think even back then it had been retired and was in the Yeti museum, but it still looked great! Check out that chainring, the HED rims and the studded ice tires!
