Lilo is to shy to ask, but she?s broken another thing on her Mtb and want to know if she can replace only the damaged part and not the whole Rear Derailleur. The part that is damaged is circled in Red. Can a person just buy the ?Green? part??

So you can un screw the broken part and fit a used part? Can this be done with all modles, I'm only asking since this is a 2005-2006 R.D, and will it be compatible with newer models?

Had to be a Marius question if it includes "thingy"...

You should be able to unscrew most sections of the RD, and the compatibility should only be dependent on whether it is long cage/short cage.

I doubt it'll be possible. From what I remember that part is riveted on. I could be wrong though....it's been a while since I fiddled with XTR. GoLefty will know for sure.

Now if it was SRAM then the answer is a definite yes. Every single component is replacable on the X.O rear derailleur. I have removed and reinstalled that particular part myself. If you're not mechanically inclined you just send it to the agents I they take care of it for a minimal fee.

It's the only SRAM invention that Shimano hasn't copied. They copy the looks and the ease-of-use features like adjustable shifter mounts to look like they know as much as SRAM, but they're to greedy to copy something like this that will save the consumer money.

Go SRAM!

Minty is sitting in a small coastal town far away from the rest of the world ! Do you really expect him to know anything ? The poor chap thinks SRAM are the only DT manufacturers . Come on Minty since when has a little rivit stopped you from stripping something completely ? BTW there are no rivets smiley2.gif

I think the shop will need to do it. Or buy her the new XT Shadow derailleur for about R500.

not complicatred at all - simply remove the cage bolt and remove the broken hanger. Reinsert the spring wind up the tension and refix the bolt - 10 minutes and it's done
