Dual Slalom races...do we still have those?

Do we still have the odd race in SA?

 

I used to race DH in late 90 and early 2000, and at every second DH race we had a DS race. 

Dirtopia festival had a famous night race every year. 

There were a tracks in Paarl, Hermanus, Ceres and at the Citrusdal Nationals way back....

 

I considered this to be the most fun form of mountain bike racing!  I was good at it, always finishing second last, but had the likes of the Neethling brothers, Bradley and Darren Stow and legend Nixon to race against, only naming but a few.  (WProv)

 

I see at crank works, see otter etc they still have it as a discipline....So whats the story?

 

Hoogekraal's new pump track looks like a lekker spot to have a race...Trailtroops??  Trail and enduro bike are perfect for this

I dunno about events, but at mont marie there is a short dual slalom section

The Uitsig Bike Park also has a short track.  Can take on Mr Nixon himself on his own track...

We had some serious fun at the Dirtopia Festival. That night dual slalom racing was very rough and tumble stuff. It became somewhat competitive between my 2 boys......but then they got their asses kicked by Chris Nixons' daughter! Ha ha, they learnt something that day! As for myself, I must admit that I usually got eliminated so early, it cost me a lot in beer, seeing that I could start drinking earlier than most.

My last Dirtopia dual I came third behind the Stowe brothers. In the semi final one of the brothers pulled out of the start gate like a bat out of hell and was probably out of that big right hander before I entered it.

 

The track in Eselfontein (Ceres) is gone.

 

The track at Mont Marie is not a dual Slalom track. Two singletracks next to each other like that is lekker for dicing though.

 

Wasn't there one at Nitida as part of the Tygerberg trails?

The great thing about it is, you don't need timers and crap. Simple Knock -out format.(plus you get to knock each other out literally...The upkeep of two line is not that easy, but you only need a short track, 50m or so...

I always said the last few elimination runs at Dirtopia resembled a cross between a wrestling match and a bike race. Especially if best mates ended up riding against each other.
