AngryAngryAngry I have not been on the road since 5 may with the road bike and I have been playing in the dirt on my MTB Big%20smileBig%20smile

So on my way home this dude with his two mates in a clapped out ISUZU bakkie with the passanger window masked up and a piece of plastic where the window should be comes across the road and glides right infront of me AngryAngryAngry now with a bit of quick thinking and sharp reactions I avoided being another statistic.

My Nut het behoorlik gestrip and when he stopped to fill up I went and told him exactly what I thought of his driving skills.AngryAngryAngry bent his mirrior a bit and tapped on his window but they stayed put I was FUMING AngryAngry

Now what goes thru my mind is should I get rid of my road bike and just stick to the dirt !!!!

when i look at my pics i took yesterday afternoon i think even more about it 20080605_112340_04062008827.jpg

The number of moronic idiots in this wonderfull country of ours is totally overwhelming. I honestly don't know what can be done about it other than the mass culling of stupid people. Instead clubbing baby seals we should be clubbing idiots and selling their bones for soap.

You could always pass the specialised to me Hagar.  I will take good care of her while you make up your mind smiley2.gif

On a more serious note Hagar.  South Africa is not a safe place.  You could stop cycling on the road but can get releived of your mtb with a knife in the chest.  The risk is lower in your area but not impossible.  Just as the risk is lower of being run over by a car in your area is lower than here in the big city.  All I can say is stay awake, stay sharp and enjoy the cycling.

Funny, I have been contemplating putting the Pinarello in the classifieds for a while now for exactly the same reason.

Glad you're ok Hagar.

thanks TNT1 I am just finding it more fun on the MTB at the moment . Exploring all the back farm roads here on the westcoast is fun riding along the coastline and in the academy . Yesterday I saw a herd of springbok grazing about 200m from the jeep track it was awesome about 50 of them now that is what is so beautiful about this place Big%20smileBig%20smile makes everything worthwhile and the awesome scenery Big%20smileBig%20smile

Ah Hagar, I see your problem - you weren't in the middle of the lane.  Safest place is middle of the lane especially since there are plenty passing lanes next door.  Not excusing idiot driving, you just need to make allowances for it.  Glad you are okay, though.

hagar, i'm very very very glad you're ok Hug

just don't admit that you approached the dude to point out the error of his ways - you might get flamed for "antagonising" him or "having issues"! Ouch

Apologies - I see where that could be a problem.  Seems guys are more and more willing to jump out in front of all traffic these days - makes it a little unnerving on a bike.

Ya, bad enough on a bicycle... fired into a slip road on the motorbike yesterday on the way home, brights on, indicator on, and some nimrod decides to chuck a U turn right in font of me... Lucky I was on the wife's little bike or he'd have tyre treads on his bonnet... and roof...
