Thought I'd give this one it's own thread...

Bit sad that the old route is out, apparently its not really ridable at the moment with the drought etc

Looking forward to see how the new route and new venue will work out

oh boy that throws a spanner in the works now. Is there a detailed route description for the 40km's?

Milky take a look at the facebook page, few details on there. But ja, completely new route, not sure what to expect

Here is a "non official" Strava recording from one of the locals who pre-rode the route this weekend.

Doesn't look like tunnel section will be included unless they change the route on ery short notice.abfece8dea334b44fc7400a08c1314cb.jpg4e9403badc45d509cb0ad59cf00f1624.jpg

  Ag nee, should have entered Darling Brew instead...

This used to be one of the coolest routes on the calendar back when it still had the tunnel and went all the way to Matroosberg station.

I'm sure it will still be a great ride even without the tunnel.

It is a shame that it's been taken out but I'm sure they considered all their options.

Good effort, thanks for everyone that was involved - something like this does not just happen and it is clear that a lot of work went into it.

Hopefully next year the old route will be back, someone said sections of it was washed away with the recent rains so it would not be safe to ride? That is something outside the control of the organisers so the alternative route was a good effort.

But I do still feel a bit disappointed. Anyways, let's see what next year brings.

I enjoyed the new route. Very little climbing and nothing really technical so a dirtroadie like I could ride balls to the wall

Get the sentiment about the tunnel, also missed it. But it is really only about 30 seconds of the whole day so not really a big deal for me. Interested to see what they will do next year.My only suggestion would be to make the route a bit longer again if possible, the 40kms were over far too quickly.

Also thought the venue & hospitality were very good. Guess I'm getting old and cranky but I prefer the smaller field over the crowds of the Darling Brew, nice not to queue for beer & food (and track)

yep it was over too quickly, I still joked saying it took 1:30 to drive to there & I got to race  for 1:30, drive home another 1:30, just doesn't make any sense. If I wasn't too smashed i would've done another lap of the short\mediums route like I did at Fine Breede.

Great event on all fronts - short route made for opening the throttle a bit more than usual, and an earlier rendezvous back at the finish area where the family was waiting. Awesome chow and lekker vibes set up by the locals, and a truly lovely day out of CT - really enjoyed the route, and whole experience.
