....how mtb's have suddenly become more popular on the hub? Anything to do with all the posts of late about roadies been hit? Safety has become a massive issue on our roads. Maybe its just my imagination but a lot of people are looking for mtb's all of a sudden.

For me it was a safety thing ... I still prefer my road bike but if I can't train somewhere safe or in the bunch on the day then I hop on my mountain bike.

Wow,, BB your to fast.  But then agian the commuting IS a lot of funEmbarrassed.  I must say the weight is also slowly falling away.  I may have to start thinking of changing may user name to something a bit faster than a OXwagon.

I think Rroad is dying a quick death. If you speak to cycle shops you'll see they sell something like 8 mountain bikes for each road bike. People are scared of the roads.

Although cyclists are only being mowed down at a rate of one a week, they get far more publicity than a motorist getting killed. Not only from newspapers (I think it is only Beeld that still reports on cycling deaths, but I may be wrong), but also from chit-chat at clubs and forums such as this.

Motorists and car passengers are popping their cleats at a rate of 1 000 per month, about 100 per month more than from aids. 

 

Smoking-related diseases still rates number one, with about 26 000 per annum departing for the big ashtray in the sky. However, newspapers hardly print a fullstop when a wheezer dies and therefore, cycling is more dangerous than smoking.

 

Makes sense, doesn't it?
