keith Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 ....how mtb's have suddenly become more popular on the hub? Anything to do with all the posts of late about roadies been hit? Safety has become a massive issue on our roads. Maybe its just my imagination but a lot of people are looking for mtb's all of a sudden.

Alida Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 For me it was a safety thing ... I still prefer my road bike but if I can't train somewhere safe or in the bunch on the day then I hop on my mountain bike.

People are scared of the roads.Although cyclists are only being mowed down at a rate of one a week, they get far more publicity than a motorist getting killed. Not only from newspapers (I think it is only Beeld that still reports on cycling deaths, but I may be wrong), but also from chit-chat at clubs and forums such as this.Motorists and car passengers are popping their cleats at a rate of 1 000 per month, about 100 per month more than from aids. Smoking-related diseases still rates number one, with about 26 000 per annum departing for the big ashtray in the sky. However, newspapers hardly print a fullstop when a wheezer dies and therefore, cycling is more dangerous than smoking. Makes sense, doesn't it?
