Third edition in the new date... Nov-16, Oct-17 and now Oct-18.

There has been wind every year, but last year was quite windy. We had to drop the inflatable arch at the finish because the wind was blowing too hard.

Prevailing winds are NW-N-NE, with the “beast from the east” resulting in strong winds (like last week).

Yeah forgot i missed the 1st year 2016.  I started but punctured shortly after start and did not want to chance it carrying on.

According to Accuweather, it’s looking promising... sunny ????

Wind is good. Makes for good hard racing.

Only problem is it is usually a head wind when cycling home after the race. And that hurts more :-(

We have added a 5Km, 10Km and 21.1Km Trail Run to our weekend of events. More details from next week (need to keep focused on Saturday's pre-ride)... http://germistonclassic.co.za/trail-run

Online entries for the trail run are open at https://www.entryninja.com/events/event/36082-carnival-city-macsteel-run

Perfect for the loved ones who might not be (cycle) racing and would like to run/walk instead.

Anyone interested in riding the route with us, in August (18th) and September (15th), let me know.

It will be a ride at a manageable pace (not race pace) - but perhaps split into groups depending on numbers and the range of ability.

Distance is either 110km or 58km from Carnival City.

Hi Gents you still riding this route soon?

I may be keen to join the ride on the 15th, depending on the pace. I'm busy training for the 947 and still have some ways to go (only started cycling in July), but getting a 110km under my belt would be great prep.

If there was someone in the slower group, what was the average speed for the previous ride in August?

Besides the wind that blew havoc, the range of abilities (race snakes to fun riders) also made it difficult to manage.

As a “beginner” I’d advise doing the 58km now and the 110km on race day.

Sounds like a plan. I'm assuming there's a separate group doing a recce ride of the 58km as well?

Please let me know if there's a WhatsApp group I can join or how I can get hold of the arrangements.

Thanks!

Both a 58km and 110km ride - just not sure on the numbers (riders and groups).

Will confirm next week after our club meeting.
