Doc' date=' it's a generic test.  We had it at a company where I had to get a vehicle license.  They test for just about everything, using 3 or 4 different tube-thingies.  I know ours was in 3 tubes and it tested for all known "banned" substances when driving.  This included weed, cocaine, booze, E, etc etc.

i wonder what such a generic test will show up if they start doing it in and around the offices here in sandton...

OUCH, but very true....

Dr S., Surely coke is a great stimulant?? like 'speed', ephedrine etc etc

seems obvious that this will benefit a cyclist, especially a sprinter??

I rememember when Jan was first bust for 'recreational' drugs and I thought hey, not so bad, he's only human, non- performance enhancing, he just likes to party too much...

Now I'm not so naive

why would they have tested him for cocaine in any case instead of the true performance enhancing stuff like EPO' date='  steroids or testosterone?

i am sure they dont just draw blood and test for about 100 substances with cocaine being one of them?

to what performance enhancing benefit is cocaine in any case?  does it mask the pain?

just find it strange for someone to do an out of competition test and then test for cocaine that i am sure does not stay in our body long enough to have any affect come race day.

Well they sort of do.  They test for all banned substances or indicators of those substances.  Cocaine is most certainly performance enhancing - no brain = no pain.

I think he'll be fine if he just tells the truth... ...that his 15 year old chick has a little 'problem' and he happened to use her nasal spray to clear some congestion he was experiencing etc...

As usual there is confusing / conflicting information.

I read the police first interviewed Tom Vannopen (his regular training partner) about his drugs case.

Vannoppen then indicated Tom was his dealer. Vannopen has been implicated in drugs and cocaine previously.

Vannopen now of course denies he said that.

The police then went to Toms house and interviewed him, however the State prosecution of Hasselt has refused to release any information if they found something during the raid.

So I dont know where this now comes from.?

The interesting part is that Lefevere (Quickstep manager) first denied the raid had taken place, then backed down and said it was routine, then backed down even further and said "Its a private matter and the team distances itself from the event.!"
