Anyone else notice Probike got the Scott agency?

Western Flyer, the old Scott agents, also never got back to me on a stock related query, despite 3 or 4 emails (all of which were read). I've had a few dealings with Probike and every single time they have helped me immediately.

I think it will be better for Scott as Probike really have their act together.

It is just interesting to see how the Scott brand will fit in with Raleigh. Will Scott become a "cheaper" brand and will Raleigh be marketed as the up market bike?

With the current pricing of Raleighs, it would seem that Probike is trying to market them as an up-market brand or will Raleigh return to their roots and "re-become" the value for money brand they were famous for? Will the Scott brand be marketed at the upper end of the Spectrum?

Mampara is right, it's the same derailleur hanger. And regarding the price, I know it's actually too expensive. But it's not that we are trying to make "big money" out of derailleur hangers. I also get shocked when I see how much we pay for such a little peace of alloy to our suppliers.

Eugene, we'll try our best to avoid competition between Scott and Raleigh, so Raleigh will definitely "re-become" the value for money brand. That doesn't mean that we reduce the quality of the bikes, but for future we are not going to spend money to have a big italian name on our frames.

Rear hanger on the RM4. Are they model specific or would one from the RM5 or RM7 work on the RM4?

Hey' date=' I can help you there. I bought a RM7 hanger and it fits my RM4. Not cheap though if you think what it is. Almost bought a new RM4 just for the spares.

I think things for the Scott brand can only improve from the current situation. They are probably industry leaders with Cervelo as far as frame structural technology goes, it is a shame that the brand has such a low profile in SA. It would be nice to see the MTN team (if they are still around next year) on Addicts - the frame colour would fit perfectly.

Perhaps we will now get a lifetime warranty on Scott frames like in the USA, instead of the 3 years offered by Western Flyer. Several top manufacturers offer lifetime warranties, Scott should too.

I don't think Cervelo is an industry leader in any sense of the word with their track record. They are also a new kid on the block with a long way to go before they can claim that status.

It would be interesting to know the industry leader in Frames only, internationally and locally would it not.?

If I had to guess, I would assume "Giant" is one of the major players internationally, but reasonably "middle of the road" here.

Locally, I would have to guess Raleigh, but I think thats solely due to the price structures here, - most of the international brands simply cannot compete.

...........but I am just guessing.!

Personally I wouldnt trust any figures I get from local agents unless (which I very much doubt) there was an independant body who would moniter this, but internationally perhaps manufacturers are more willing to put out numbers?? - dont know, never really thought about it until now.

Embarrassed I've got no insider info about any sponsorship deals - bad choise of words! Good to hear MTN is in for 2 more years. Some international sponsors like US Postal, Discovery, T-Mobile, MAN, CSC, Quick Step are leaving the sport, seems like cycling and corporates are a sort of on/off thing.

Regarding technology, IMO the only measure of a frame is the technology that went into it. The engineering numbers are what realy counts. The mass of the frame, its stiffness, and its durability. Leave out the branding, the marketing, the emotional respons of people to the letters on the frame.

Scott put the revolutionary CR1 on the market in 2003 - 5 years ago! The frame weighed sub 900 grams, at a time when 1400 to 1500 grams were not unusual. It was just as stiff at the heavier frames, and then beat those frames in fatigue tests, too.

At the moment, Cervelo seems to be some of the best engineerd, when it comes to weight & stiffness. The R2.5 had serious durability problems, but they came a long way since then.

I think Trek & Specialized are also right up there, and Giant is also very good.

Maybe they can answer a question I had a while back about MC Genius frames that never got answered. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

1)       If the shock fails is there an upgrade kit to fix the flaws in the design and what would the recommended retail price of the upgrade be.

2)       If the rear triangle fails is there an updated rear triangle that fixes the known problems and what would the recommended retail price be.

I would find it strange that the current MC is still being sold with those two problems in place.
