So many commented on this we are more anxious than you, congrats!

I think it’s because we all know just how awesome it is to take your new bike for it’s first spin. Especially when it’s your first bike, such an adventure and so much discovery and more “firsts” (first race, first multistage race, first cool socks, first broken collarbone) still awaits.

The hype is real...

Just a few questions:

What pedals should I get? I got a quote on the Shimano XT M8000 ones. Are they good?

Will buy all the other smaller things like pumps, tools ect next month. Lets hope I dont get a puncture.

Also, what bar should the tires be or does that depend on my weight?

Bike is shipping today. So should be here around Wed?Thurs

I know what Im going to do this weekend :) hehebce45641e314ca9e26aa4323d1b9df1d.jpg

Ah man, jealous of you, waiting for the bike is half the fun!

I assume you have already made up your mind that you are going for clipless pedals and not flats? (BTW clipless means you clip in - silly name but that's just the way it is). If so, Shimano M8000 is pretty much gold standard, they are light and bullet proof - the bearing last forever and they can take a beating. Another option is the M8020 - it's the trail version of the M8000 - it has a small cage around the pedal body. Personally I prefer the M8020, the platform is nice and gives a little extra protection against rock strikes and comes at a minimal weight penalty.

As for tyre pressure, that is very dependant on your weight, the tyre and rim combination on the bike, and the terain you will ride. A good starting point is 2.0 bar for the rear and 1.8 bar for the front - but play around with it - it's a very personal thing.

That's an odd looking helmet....

Cant seem to find the M8020 ones, not even locally and Bike Addict is out of stock. Ah well I'll just use the M8000 ones for now and upgrade in the future.

It's really a matter of preference though - the m8000 is an XC pedal, the m8020 is the trail pedal. Once you are on the bike you will feel no difference, so don't lose too much sleep over it :)

The pd-m520 is also an option - works the same as m8000, just slightly heavier and a whole lot cheaper! I've got a set that's still going strong after 10yrs of on and off use.

+1 for tubeless - not even something to think about in my opinion, if you top up sealant every so often you practically eliminate puntures alltogether.

I dont know which ones to use where but I think the clips will do fine for my style. I'm not going to do the extreme mountain bike rides like jumps/downhill tracks ect. I'm going to do the usual trails in the area along with some nice long distance scenery rides.

EDIT: I see now what you mean by the Saints. Sorry thought you were talking about just normal flat pedals without the clips ect.

That's what I said before I got my Genius, my Confidence has grown and the bike has pushed my limits, My skills still don't match my bike.
