Hi Hubbers

I have 2 questions I hope someone can help me with.

1: If I want to run an oval chainring, do I have to take off those 4 crank adaptors (aka bling things) where the chainrings bolts on?

2: If those adaptors are scratched where can one buy new ones?

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanx for the reply

Is there any way that I can keep the blings? The crank just does not look nice without them?

Do you get a shimano xtr oval?

Thanx for your reply. Thats to bad. Do you get Shimano original oval that can be used with the crank or only after market ones?

Only aftermarket, try looking at Csixx as well.

Shimano pretty much gave up on oval after their Biopace chainrings.

Why would you want oval anyway? There's no benefit to them except perhaps in lowering perceived fatigue

Depends on the rider. Not gonna turn you into a pro, but where I did feel a difference was the really slow cadence rocky/techy climbs where my cadence would normally stall - found it just a bit easier to keep the pedals turning on those ocassions. Whether that effect was mental or real is up for debate, but it was enough to keep me on an oval ring for a while.

Back on a round ring now because that's what I had in my spares box, but I think I am gonna go back to oval when the time comes to replace/change size of the ring. The way I see it there is no disadvantage to going oval, so whether the advantage of oval is real or perceived - it's an advantage none the less.

Just to get it out there OVALS WORK , they smoothen out the torque transfer to your rear wheel.

If you feel the benefits that come with that is up to you.

If you're conditioned to the point where your pull strentgh is the same as your push then an oval will not benefit you.

Op get the same size you have now , don't listen to that crap about you have to up in size when going oval.

M9000 ovals are available.

BIOPACE made critcal mistakes that modern oval chainrings DO NOT have so don't listen to people that list Biopace as A reason to not ride ovals.

Your bling tabs will not work with an aftermarket chainring and AFAIK shimano don't make oval chainrings.

New bling tabs should be available from shops that stock shimano.

Smoothen torque?

OK this is a religion so no point in asking for validation

I have an AbsoluteBlack 32T Oval on my XTR M9000. Had to take the bling things off, but I am very happy with the Oval.

I don't know what it does and why, but I gave it a try and I like it.

I don't need scientific evidence, I'm not a pro - I like it and that's enough.

Exactly. Right up there with SRAM vs Shimano and chain lube.
