1991 diamondback apex . ?

Gosh, sorry. I was thinking of the old dual response model.

 

The Axis 1991 was a very cool bike. Did it come with Shimano Deore DX components?

 

It would be a very cool restoration project

It was one of the lusted after bikes of the Er along with the Bridgestone MB0/1/2.

The Axis was the top model, fitted with Shimano Deore XT. Apex had a mix of Deore and Suntour parts if I recall .

It was quite a long bike for the era with a relatvely steep seat tube as well. I think it was made from Japanese Tange tubing. The Axis was made from Ritchey. 

Maybe speak to Nils HAnsen at Woodstock cycles. He's fully into the vintage bike scene. You can probably get a restored Apex from him!!

The bikes would definitely have only used Shimano components in 1991. XT, DX, LX or 400 I believe. Definitely not with any Suntour Parts. Maybe from 1992 or 1993 they would have offered a Suntour XC Pro, Comp or Expert model.

 

I'm also not sure that were made by or from Ritchey. Probably only the rear dropouts would be by Ritchey. The tubes are definitely True Temper of various grades across the line.

wow excellent find! Thanks or sharing. definitely reset the memory. We sold loads of those from the bike shop I worked at on the weekends. Honda centre had the Bridgestones. We had Cannondale, Diamondback, Nishiki, Cunningham, Trek and GT.

Most had Ritchey dropouts and the tubing was either True Temper, Tange or Ritchey Logic.

Then there was that wack job Kirk Precision....

If you do find one and plan to restore it, I have a pair of Avenir Brahma Bars in great condition that would make your bike seriously cool.

I owned a Black Apex with DX and the Brahma bars. Crazy bike. Road bike geometry with little to no guve anywhere. I loved it ????????

 

The Brahma bars were awesome. Unlimited hand positions. They should be compulsory for Munga!

 

Edit: Mine also had a stupidly long stem like the pic. Insanity!

I just remembered the huge big ring and the canti brakes now.

 

Awesome retro bike! You should definitely buy it and renovate it. What you shouldn't do is ride it off road  :clap:  :clap:

Ja Boet..Fortunately we did not know any better and cycled to the 2Hell&Back on it, :-)

Like the olde adage, ignorance is bliss

 

In those days the tyres were tubed with liners, inflated to 3 bar because harder were faster and innovation was when you upgraded from cantilever to V-brakes. Once in a while I take the old one for a memory ride, but must admit that the creature comforts found on a modern full-suss bike is hard to beat,
