Ive had my rapide wheels a couple of days, and ive not been able to go for a ride. 1 because in my eagerness to get the wheels tyres on, i damaged the rim tape and subsequently the tyres wont seal (got new rimtape from my LBS yesterday so I will install later) and 2 because I have been THAT busy working...

its amazing how much lighter the wheels are! when this coldfront blows over, it looks like tomorrow might be clearer thant the last 2 days, I will be going out to test them!

I recently swopped out my Magic Marys 2.4 for the Conti MountainKings 2.2 for lockdown riding while we were in level 4. Hit the trails with them as soon as they opened under level 3, and my word was I surprised by them Grip like all hell. Fast and rail hard in the corners.

They were flipping noisy on the tarmac while pretending to be a roadie. Sounded like they were tearing themselves apart. Thought maybe it was just cos they were new.

But now on the trails, I am gobsmacked. Don't think I will be rushing back to the Magic Mary's in a hurry. Super impressed with them so far.

I'm waiting for Rapide to get stock in of their rims, then pulling the trigger on a pair of Rapide TR29-30 SL for my Rocky Mountain Instinct 950. Can't wait to upgrade from the stock SUNringle 20mm ID wheels. Been chatting to Wayne throughout lockdown and his service and advice is great. Only heard good things about Rapide from others.

I have a set for sale at the moment of you are interested?

I can definitely recommend the 30mm internal width and Rapide in general
Bought a complete wheelset almost exactly 2yrs ago
Have been such a treat and much lighter than I imagined it to be
Quite the upgrade from the stock Bontragers that came on my Fuel EX5
Little to no issues throughout until this week...took my bike to my LBS for something else and they noticed the rear rim was completely cracked through. So strange, I did not notice it as the tyre didn't lose any pressure. I have not inspected it myself (obv trusting my LBS) but it apparently cracked through at the "welding spot" Will have a proper look tomorrow. The rim had one (minor?) ding, but ran true and tbh at 95kg with gear and almost weekly hammering down Jonkershoek I suppose it was inevitable, what can I say....so I decided to go for the Stans FLOW EX3 (29mm ID) as replacement (was like R500 more than the Rapide).
Nogals excited - hopefully get the bike tomorrow in time for some sunshine shenanigans this weekend.

Upgrading my rapide wheelset to the microspline freebody, Rapide’s freebody is only R899, making the SLX upgrade very much worth it in my opinion. Its all going on tomorrow...

Are you happy with the wheelset, gemmerbal?

Yes very much, the microspline freebody has been faultless. Just checked now on strava and saw I've done about 1300kms on the rapide wheels. Recently replaced the tyres with vittoria saguaro cape cobras (2.2) and coupled with the 25mm internal width, I must admit, I've not felt this comfortable and confident on techie singletracks since I can remember.

Astonishingly, the rapide wheels shaved off over 2kgs off of my bike weight - it's ridiculous how heavy those Jalco/Merida Big Nine wheels are!

I'm a stingy spender, but this was money well spent in my opinion.

Its a pleasure. I thought long and hard, I did consider others but ultimately a good friend of mine, and a proper cyclist btw, recommended the Rapides. So yeah, thus far I cant complain.

Go for it!

Thanks a lot - exactly the feedback I needed! I must replace my back wheel in the near future and the Rapide wheels are at the top of my list.
