Mixing groupset components

Shiftmate can't fix Campag compatibility with Shimano. The Campag shifters don't pull the same for all gears.

1) With Campagnolo derailleur and shifter thats true. Thats because the campagnolo shifter pulls 2.5mm cable 5x, 3mm x2 and 3.5mm x2. The problem is the shifter. OP wants to use a Shimano shifter with campag rear derailleur. Shiftmate works perfectly.

2) If what you are saying is true then the cassette sprocket spacing would be different between the sprockets the a Campagnolo cassette would not work with a Shimano or SRAM drivetrain which of cause it does. The between sprockets is similar to Shimano and SRAM which is why Mavic neutral support wheels work across all groupsets in the peleton.

Mavic carries separate gear to support all three and have sheets as to what the various teams use. You can't put Campag cassette with Shimano groupset and vice versus.

I know that SRAM and Shimano cassettes are the same. I used SRAM red groupset with Shimano cassette and also the two manufacturers chains interchangeably.

Campag cassette on Campag hub with Shimano group works just fine for the last 4 years but Ok I'll just leave the debate right here because it clear your "knowledge" trumps my years of experience of mixing groupsets.

Ok I see you changed your comment. OP has Campag shifter. So Shiftmate can't match this to shimano derailleur. I agree that Shiftmate could match Shimano shifter to Campag derailleur, providing cassette is not Campag. I see that now that you have pointed this out.

You made a statement that Mavic has one cassette which works with all group sets, my knowledge came from Google.

Ultimately with mixing group sets there is theory and practical. If you test something and it works, then it works. Doesn't matter what the theory says.

And if you read my comment you would see I said the Shiftmate works with the combo he has and is good enough for a commuter. Depending on how it’s et up the shifting on one of the sprockets will be slow and struggle to take but the rest is fine for commuting. That’s my experience with it. For racing I wouldn’t bother but the question revolves around using old parts to make a commuter work
