What mount and cages are you using?

Standard garmin stem mount and the bottle cages are blackburn, 27g for both.  I need to rein it in like I said because the goal was 7.99kgs  - I would not admit in a public forum what these 300g less have cost - bike was quite reasonable before I encountered German products - saddle was a bargain though

Fair enough, there is a lighter cage option, but we talking maybe 5grams saving across both, they are well priced, but fully understand your stance on where you are with this build now. Kudos

Over the standard bolts I swapped 6 of these out for, I saved around 11grams. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when you are hunting a target, every little bit helps

You do realise that the term "standard Ti bolts" is an oxymoron?!

I love weight weenies, but especially the ones that can take a bit of ribbing and realise how ridiculous it all is!

I have some new upgrades but that's not the reason for this post - The Open is terrifying downhill and particularly on corners - despite my 90kgs pushing the rubber onto the gravel, its a tad dangerous and I'm thinking tyre choice could be the reason and I need help  - no doubt I'm opening myself up for a plethora of opinion but hopefully someone will make sense - Currently it rolling on SWorks renegade 1.9s - bear in mind this is a gravel bike that does very little technical terrain.  These roll fast, weigh zip and this thing climbs like a mountain goat despite the jockey.

I need to compromise a little because a crash is imminent - remember weight is important here - I can spare a few extra grams as its now 7.5 due to German ingenuity like a 98 gram Schmolke seatpost and a set of rotors at 68 grams each from trickstuff

So you were they guy I was hoping would respond - almost PM'd you - not a huge fan of any S branding despite great products but these were light - quick google says available in 2.1 and 2.3  - which are you recommending ?  I'm not sure how my OCD brain will function with 2 different sizes rear and front and non matching tyres but it beats scraping myself off any of my regular 7 passes

I'd say 2.3 every time. Superior grip characteristics and will smooth out the chatter a lot better due to the lower pressure you can run.

But you have to consider the weight penalty as well. So judge on that, too. Grip & comfort vs weight. Is an extra 50-100g going to hurt more than the extra grip heals? That's what you need to ask yourself.

Ground control in S Works casing? It'd have symmetry with the back cos of the Renegade, so branding would remain.

Remember Myles, this is a gravel bike - 2.3 is wider than I ride on my Pyga stage - I don't go flying down technical terrain on flat pedals, ever - I'm cleated cruising along gravel but the current tyres don't even like that downhill.  Combined with my poor skills, an accident waiting to happen

Have you considered Schwalbe Thunder Burt or Furious Fred?

Edit: or a cornering skills clinic? :whistling:

The cornering skills clinic is a must for starters but a seriously skilled rider told me he had one of his slowest downhills after one of his fastest uphills on my bike - Montagu pass in George

yeah. Indeed. Which is why I said you need to consider weight vs grip and comfort. If it were me, it'd be the 2.3 because more grip.

Alternatively the Fast Trak is also an option. Better than the Renegade, I think. Between it and the Ground control

Thanks, I will try these Fast Traks as I've had them before - will check the weight against my Onza Canis and Onza svelt which I have on other bikes and have managed to keep upright  - (mostly)  Don't want the bike to be a porky 7.9kgs now do I?
