Time to upgrade?

Hi guys

I ride a 2016 Merida Scultura 5000 with full Ultegra 6800 components.  Is there any point upgrading to a similar 2018/2019 Scultura 5000 just with newer Ultegra 8000?

My area in Worcester is pretty flat so the need for disc brakes is not an issue

Thanks in advance

Short answer is no.

If it still goes flawlessly, then that's probably right.

But we also seldom upgrade because we need to ...

We develop an itch, and as your subject title suggests, decide it's time to upgrade.

Nothing like some new equipment to motivate one. :)

Yes, the answer to upgrading is always yes.

was just about to say this. I know Jack about roadbikes but it's been 2 years so you can justify it to the missis???????????? I have only had my bike for 4 or 5 months which is long for me but have upgraded it quite a bit and going to the bike expo tomorrow looking for more not that I need it or that it would make any difference to my riding just because I want to.

The term "upgrade" usually means something better. You want to go from a Merida with Ultegra to another Merida Ultegra. That's not an upgrade, that's a move across.

An upgrade would be a Merida with Dura Ace and carbon wheels.

So, unless you are buying something with better spec, I wouldn't do it.

Unless, of course, your current bike is in a bad state and needs to be replaced

There seems too be very little between the old and new Ultegra versions. Merida's frames also don't seem to have changed to much.

Already running some AC Carbon 40 wheels.

Also not to sure if Di2 is also really an upgrade

I love my Di2 upgrade, definitely found it worthwhile. Ultegra mechanical was great, but with Di2 the gear changes feel instant - plus it sounds so cool. I also love the synchro-shift option - its changed my riding style because the changes are so slick, also changing under load etc.

I just bought a second hand carbon mtb, 2013 model. Put brand new drivetrain, rubber and other smaller bits on. It runs as new now. If all you are looking for are better components, just upgrade that and save some cash

Wonder if one will be able to get a good deal on Black Friday?

I'm sure there will be a few good deals on Black Friday, but I go with what Eugene said.

If you're going to upgrade components, make it worth while.
