Did anyone pick up a front wheel at Berg and Bush 2018?

Did anyone pick up a front wheel at the recent Berg and Bush 2018 event? It's a carbon 29er Specialized Roval Control Trail SL with a Roval/DT Swiss hub, XTR rotor and Ground Control tyre. It would have been picked up on Day 1 of the midweek event or any time thereafter and could have been anywhere on the route, roads or at camp.

I had a rear derailleur failure 20km into day 1 and ended up handing the bike in to the race organisers and then rode the rest of the route on one of the PYGA mechanics bikes (thanks to Hilton from Pyga!).

My bike arrived back at race camp without the front wheel and with no explanation. The response from the race organisers was that "equipment is the riders responsibility" and rather disappointingly they did nothing to help recover it even though the wheel was removed by them and lost while in their possession. I have tried to sort it with them behind the scenes but to no avail - I know this is a separate issue but it explains why I am only posting this now.

I'm essentially just clutching at straws at this point but did anyone see it or pick it up?

Heard them asking about your tyre during the race. I think someone needed a spare and it was swapped out and given to someone else. *** attitude by rider/mechanic/organiser if this is the case.

Yes they did announce it but only on the last night of the event and after much begging from my side.

One of the race crew was going to retrace their steps back to WaterPoint 1 on the day after the event to see if they had dropped it anywhere but they never got back to me. After several weeks of much enquiring and waiting I was told it never turned up. I'm not convinced anyone ever went to go look but by then it would've been too late anyway. They should've gone to look for it on the same day that it went missing.

Not the topic of this thread but yes the way it was handled was very disappointing and I will probably never ride the Berg and Bush again.

Pity, as what should have been a great experience with awesome memories now just leaves a bitter taste in your mouth - very unfortunate and p*ss poor response from organiser imho!

Yeah I'm sorry but a front wheel going missing is ridiculous. A saddle bag or a few bombs taped to a frame is one thing, but how the hell do you lose a front wheel!?

I'm assuming it had to be taken off to be loaded onto the vehicle and who ever did that just forgot the wheel leaning against a tree or rock.

Have you dealt with Gary and/or Roxy directly? They've always been helpful and struck me as stand up folks.

I do echo the sentiments above though. I understand that they cannot take responsibility for your bike if it's picked up, but in my mind that translates to 'it might pick up a scratch', not lose a carbon wheel. Not acceptable.

Couple of years ago at Sani2c I found a rear wheel outside the race village. Start of last day. It looked expensive. Handed it in at the race office and they were like ja well just toss it with that massive pile of stuff we have over there. Doubt if it ever found its owner. Sucks losing a wheel like that.
