Dont do it

1. No local support, you can not get it calibrated here if you ever need to

2. Mine and a friends lasted 5years and constant issues

3. Stages WORKS and WORKS AND WORKS

I'm surprised to hear you say that.

All my experiences with Quarq have been excellent - very reliable - fit and forget (change the battery every once in a while). I know many other people with Quarqs and so far, no one has had any issues.

Stages have constant issues. My mate is currently on his 4th unit, all replaced under warranty. I have a stage crank arm, and would happily get rid of it if I could get a quarq for a good deal.

Exactly this. I do spin out on flats offroad, however that's mostly keep tracks and gravel roads...

My rides however all start from home, so I have a bit of tar mileage to get through and back.

Lastly, and actually my most concerning point, gear spacing... The spacing between gears is fantastic on the 12 vs 10...

Still happy with sunrace and its performing flawlessly. Have decided to just go 34t up front until chainring are more readily available. Love the change and got good value for money, IMHO.

Which crank are you using that a 32T or 36T isn't available?

Lyne, which uses sram style Direct mount. It has a 32 on already, I wanted to go to 36 but I can only really find legit sram rings in 36... So, being a cheapskate, I'll wait for a bargain..

Had a massive hunt for one last year. Bought a 34 from CWC on black friday.

My Scottish heritage prevents me from spending that kind of money right now...

Really, it's not a problem to write home about and so I'll go 34 for now, if I really miss out on the top end I'll scrounge for a 36...

Cool

I was also looking for a 36 but could only find the 34..... Luckily!!! I don't think a 36 would fit on the frame!

Myself and Karma both had Quarq

His stopped working totally and he contacted Quarq, and they said the best they could do was to give him a discount on a new unit.....

Mine started giving power numbers of 2-3000w and I sent it to agents who told me they dont have a calibration method for it and that they only get cadence on the unit ( i sent them the spider only, and they were only running a magnet over the unit to get cadence) they offered me a "fantastic" discount to keep me on the product

Normal price R23 000 my discounted price R21 600

Bought a carbon stages, and no issue since

What rides do you do where you will miss out on top end? Road rides?

I find this an interesting debate where the 1x fans continually argue as to how much top end is really needed. In my case I'm slow on the climbs but fast on the downhills, how fast you might ask? Well as fast as I can go, on Sani that can be anything above 70kmh. Why? Because I can and I want to. I have recently been forced into a 1x 12 when I bought my new Stumpjumper and I find it a huge compromise from my previous 38/24 - 36/11 where I was spinning out at just above 60kmh. My current 34 -50/10 spins out at 53kmh and my climbing is also reduced albeit only slightly. Given a choice I would take the 2x anyday of the week.

Do you really power on the downhill? I dont, I stop peddaling above 50kmh anyway Doing K2C  I have never had to pedal above that speed as it is downhill.....

All other MTB races, when I sit in a group and we hit the roling gravel roads most people run a 32 x 11 so I can stay with the group and that is all i want.

I think you missed my point, we all ride differently. I need to make back the time I lose on the climbs and I absolutely hammer it downhill and I get irritated when I spin out ( track dependent of course). This means that I am always looking for more top end and the 1x option means that I have to compromise on this compared to a 2x option. I get it that for the majority of riders 50kmh + on a gravel road is not their thing and for them the 1x is not a compromise. What I'm not enjoying is being forced into a compromise simply because it suits the majority, it's my money and I want what I want.

Anyway this is a short vid of a descent on Sani day 1 2015 on my Specilaised Epic 3x with 42t front chainrings I actually pedalled the whole way down, those were the days!

Horses for courses...the only race/ride I have ever done that has long gravel sections is K2C.

For excample, the Attakwas you will not need this type of gearing.... I dont konw the Sani2C decent you did here as I never needed more top on that race either.

EDIT: Were you on a Epic 26er? with a 42 front?

They've added a single track about a third of the way down so that gravel section is a lot shorter now. The Epic was a 29er which came out with a 40t that I changed to a 42t/34/22 it was the best gearing I've had so far.

So. With the news that my X0-10Sp has ended its lifespan. I'm considering this whole NX vs Sunrace thing.

Best prices I see right now are both EvoBikes

NX: R3995

Sunrace: R3395

XT: R4k. (just not a shimano fan. Nothing to do with gear range as per your previuos thread derail)

Any latest news on the sunrace setup? I'm leaning more towards the NX, as I prefer the overall feel of sram, with shimano as my only reference.

Any place cheaper?

And being the 91st of Jan, even that extra R1k has me wondering.

*edit: Price
