Mountain biking, pedestrians, dogs and sharing Table Mountain

Just needing to put it out there that Table Mountain Routes, paths etc gets shared between all.  Please do that responsibly.  Nobody is above behaving like a decent person.  It is very definitely NOT a race track, for nobody.  So the guys who like to race and do not like to slow down for people, dogs kids etc  please go somewhere else where you can race to your hearts content.  Seriously people we all love the Mountain and want to be in that beautiful space in harmony.  We have enough aggression as it is every day around us.

It goes for all of us out there. Enjoy whatever you do.

Context, please? Did something happen recently? Not saying that one shouldn't behave properly, but it sounds as if this is something borne of a recent personal experience. When I and my buddies ride TM, we make a point of being courteous and respectful of all other users (especially those with doggos, as they can get a bit freaked by a bicycle shunting past them) and slow right down when encountering other users. Sometimes walkers / hikers see us coming down the trail and step all the way off the trail, to let us go past without having to slow down, and we let them know very much how welcome that movement is and wish them a good eve / walk.

But you're right - TM is there for everyone to enjoy, and one sour user spoils the experience, sometimes.

One question and a serious question.

What is the law/rule with regards to dogs, I'm being told they must be on leash at all times.

I've had a few run ins over this. I do my best, but always i get crapped on like i shouldn't be there

They should be on a leash and the owners should have an activity permit the same way we should.

We ride the glen pretty often and the sight of our crew in FF helmets might be a little intimidating. We're pretty aware of dog walkers and always slow right down and inform the walker how many more there is of us.

On balance I think the influx of riders is a good thing. The more people making use of the area means less crime.

Judging by the number of complaints we are getting about cyclists, maybe some cyclists need to be put on leashes too.

Ok so your experiences is the same like mine, except I've had oke tell me he doesn't need a permit because he stays close by and he pays rates

He is officially known as "My Mountain" in our crew

I've yet to encounter a dog on a leash on TM.

Come one morning to quarry side at vredehoek, and sometimes at tafelberg road, there's a lady that walks about 7-10 dogs, about 1 of them are on a leash

I'm also yet to encounter a dog walker who picks up their dog's schidt and who actually has a permit when I produced mine and asked to see theirs.

As far as I know TM (well at least on the east side) is a free range zone so no need for a leash but they still need to be under your control - if not then must be on a leash. NO DOGS on the Kirstenbosch stretch not at all.

How do you control a dog in an environment with a million sensory distractions without a leash? And please don't say dog training. I had a very well trained township Shepard and the dog trainer was adamant that if you take a dog out in public you have it on a leash.
