Ja, maybe wrong to run him over, but that cyclist is riding like a dwaas. Could have easily pulled over after the light went green to let the car pass - he was intentionaly blocking him. If someone takes my mirror out I might just have the same knee jerk reaction...

Doesn't make the driver right - but that cyclist got what was coming to him.

The dude got what he deserved

Do you and the other "he got what was coming" really believe that? Running someone over for a wing mirror is a fair trade?

I'm beginning to wonder about the sanity of some people... and understanding why life is so cheap in SA. If us enlightened cyclists think that running someone over is fair punishment for a wing mirror then it is no surprise that criminals think stabbing you to death for your cell phone is fair.

wow for a bunch of apparent "cyclists " in a cycling forum you guys sure sound like a bunch of motorists .......

see Eldrons post above ^^^^^

I hate to say this, because nobody on The Hub is ever wrong, but you are all wrong!

If you watch the video more carefully and not just take the OP's word for it you will see that the Chinese made Toyota's mirror did not break.  The cyclist reached behind him to get his water bottle from behind his seat.  The mirror is still in tacked and you can see the white water bottle bounce off the windscreen.

So, cyclist did not damage the Chinese Toyota.  Maybe he just wanted to take a sip of water and the guy in the Toyota was to close to him that he bumped his elbow against the car and that send the bottle flying.

No.... it's not fair play. But when you block a car intentionally (maybe more to it other than in the vid), and then take a swing at the mirror you can expect that sort of knee jerk reaction. Again, doesn't make it right - but at the very least expected.

Ja, in terms of law the cyclist did nothing wrong by riding in the middle of the lane (at least SA law), but it's a dumbass move, you are looking for an altercation by doing that.

I'm with you right up until "but that cyclist got what was coming to him".

I'm pretty sure this was a knee jerk reaction (the swerve after the mirror bashing was a little too fast to be a rational action). It's the "we got what he deserved" part this thread that bothers me - we've had time to process this and if people still think "that cyclist got what was coming to him" then I'm concerned about the attitude of people. Sure it might just be unthinking typical "macho talk" but the trend is alarming.

Yeah I guess it's about interptetation, by saying he got what came to him I don't necessarilly mean he deserves it. I more meant if you are gonna take a swing at a car know that the guy in the car is going to retaliate, so don't be surprised if that ends up with you on the sidewalk with tyre marks where you don't want them.

Yup - that's a fair assessment.

We're down to semantics now I guess.

As always - the standard "don't be a d!ck" or "be lekker" as the OP said solves just about any situation.

Count to 10, take a breath and if you still want to run someone down or smash their wing mirror off - you're a psychopath :-)

good case study OP....

agree that both were chops in this case. cyclist started it.

As for the driver of the truck type thing.....with great power comes great responsibility. He could have killed the cyclist and should have his licence for that (whatever that thing is) revoked.

klap him yes, but a massive truck like that.....eish
