Hi all,

I know this might be asked plenty of times before so sorry for that and any help will be appreciated.

My friend is looking to buy his first road bike (budget R30k - R50k), I know it might sound a lot for a first road bike, but please share your thoughts on new bikes for value of money.

Have a awesome weekend and day!

Any carbon bike with a Shimano 105 groupset will be fine.

In his price range he can even look at any Shimano Ultegra fitted bike.

Road bikes are easier than mountain bikes, as there is only frame and group set.

Personally, I would go with Giant Propel Advanced (Ultegra) RR R35 000 or any Cannondale in that price class.

Not sure what size he is, but these are some very decent options:

Lots and lots of options to choose from in his price range that all come with incredible specs!

Pointless buying a new bike which comes with Shimano 105 and heavy wheels.

Hello everyone,

Kindly advise on the following. In terms of buying an upgradeable road bike frame...what does one look for in the frame?

Thnx

i dont understand the question "upgradeable" it sounds like a salesman trying to sell you something intangible.(and over priced)

a steel road bike frame from 1980 is upgradeable by putting a 2019 11 speed group on it.

a carbon 2019 non disc model road bike frame is not upgradeable to a disc brake system ..ever

both frames will take Di2 or electronic shifting groups

realistically the whole "upgrade" thing is moot because mostly in one way or another you will guild a turd if you do so its usually better to sell your whole bike and upgrade by buying a whole new bike.(or new second hand)

buy the best bike you can afford now and ride it till you have outgrown or outdeveloped it as a rider but dont decide on a bike based on upgrading it because you most probably wont anyway .
