I can't deny that. I didn't want this to go into a religious debate.. But it did... And he's ultimately doing what his God has says he must do. Spread the word.

I guess when you are debating about abortion you are always gonna bring religion into it. What I don't get is the state that brought this topic to the fore again...alabahma...The death penalty is still in place. It is most contradictory.. Especially considering how inhumane the death penalty is

and a abortion debate will never reach a conclusion.

To illustrate your point - Romania at one staged banned abortion. As usual it will be the poor and vulnerable that will suffer the most from misguided morality enforcement.

"As a last resort, many Romanian women turned to home and back-alley abortions, and by 1989, an estimated 10,000 women had died as a result of unsafe procedures. The real number of deaths might have been much higher, as women who sought abortions and those who helped them faced years of imprisonment if caught. Maternal mortality skyrocketed, doubling between 1965 and 1989."

So are we assuming rape/alcohol/drug use was substantially more prevalent here? Why else would these woman knowingly proceed?

Because people have abortions when it's illegal for the same reasons as when it's legal..i.e the criminality of it has no impact on the numbers of people having abortions, it only has an impact on the safety of those abortions

I agree with the theory of doing it regardless of legality, only location changes.

My gripe is that I can't work out how to properly disincentivise people from using abortion as a contraceptive. If the fear of dying or going to jail isn't enough, what is?

Find me an example of someone who has purposefully done this. An abortion is not like a tooth extraction, it if an incredibly painful procedure, both physically and mentally. No women would have reckless sex and use the excuse of being able to have an abortion. Using abortion as contraception is an unsubstantiated claim made up by pro lifers and it has no foundation in fact.

I'll find the table I'm thinking of tomorrow. It had rubbish reasons like wasn't mature enough, couldn't afford it, got in the way of school... If you can't look after a human - keep your damn pants on.

I can also tell you from personal experience of having accompanied woman to have the deed done at varsity (not because I was the perpetrator! but because other guys are dogs and don't care) that it is most definitely used as a last resort for a stupid night out. Sad, but true.

Abortion? Or morning after pill. I will be the first to agree that in some instances the morning after pill is abused

Both! The pills are abused probably the world over. But sadly I've also been witness to (albeit very early) abortions.

I hate this table because its always the retort to people claiming the tiny minority of rape cases as reason for abortions, its old - 2004, and US specific. (There is a more recent table, but it drills down into the medical reasons more, all still less than 2%, and has a catch-all 'selective' option at 75% so a pretty poorly detailed representation I feel)

It's important to distinguish the difference between unplanned pregnancies vs "using it a a contraceptive" though. Just because women have an unplanned pregnancy and the decide to abort... Did not mean they had consciously planned to do that. I can't stand the expression that women would use abortion as a contraceptive.. That has no basis in fact and people need to stop saying it

Exactly, Stretch.

How many women go sleeping around and say “Feck it, I’ll just get an abortion if I get knocked up”.

Here's a good read from an OB...

Look at all those reasons that most people don't even think about. Dozens of legit reasons why you simply cannot take that decision away from a mother.

Also go read the comments... hundreds of women, all in agreement and sharing their reasons why.

Does it not worry you Robbie and Jacquers that it's a huge struggle to find a women who is not pro-choice? Why on earth do you think as men it's fair to have a say in this?

The real bottom line in this is education of girls the world over and it's a huge, fookin indictment that the same cretins who ban abortions are the ones preaching abstinence. This is foremost a women s HEALTH issue not a life issue and again, the same feckers gutting the health departments are the ones who are pro-life. Hypocrisy is not a health cure.

You can expand on this. There is nothing in the world that a man HAS TO have. Sanitary towels on the other hand are required by EVERY SINGLE woman. Oh yay they're VAT exempt now, but why should woman pay for these things at all? They have to have them, they should be free.

Again, there is no law that governs what a man HAS TO do with(in) their body. Why are we allowing laws to dictate what a woman MUST DO with hers?

It is beyond my comprehension that anyone would even consider a woman taking a morning after pill to prevent an unwanted pregnancy as abuse!

The abortion pill is an option, just like the normal pill is, the loop, a condom or the snip. You are preventing unwanted pregnancies. I have never hear of anyone telling a guy that he is abusing condoms. How absurd would that be.

The fact that men are allowed unrestricted sexual freedom without the responsibility of an unplanned pregnancy, but woman are not, seems very prejudiced and discriminatory towards woman.

Remember the abortion pill is taken very early in a pregnancy and cannot be remotely equated to the vacuuming of a healthy fetus out of a womb that is in the second trimester. These are precisely the images anti-abortionists want to create in your mind in order to elicit highly emotive and irrational responses to the very mention of the word 'abortion'.
