Price Advice on two old Nishiki bikes

Hey everyone,

 

My parents gave me their old Nishiki Land Cruiser bikes (bought at the Bouwer Broers when they were still a proper thing) to sell since they haven't used them in probably over 20 years.

 

I'm trying to get a good estimate on what they are worth, but I can't seem to find the right model or year.

 

Thinking they got them roundabout late 80's

 

I still have to dig the one up in storage, but I'll post pics of the one I have dug up so far. If I remember correctly, then the one is a ladies frame.

 

There is some rust present and will obviously need a service, considering how long they've gathered dust. They still look great otherwise though. Barely ridden, so no fall damage or anything of the sort that I am aware of.

 

Anyways, is there any chance that you peeps can give me a price estimate, or at least some info on them other than what the stickers say?

In my humble opinion, not worth much at all. They were a dime a dozen and nothing particularly special. If they have real sentimental value to you, give them good scrub, lube and new tyres. Otherwise they are just old bikes, not really vintage or classic. Your family memories are probably worth keeping them.

We had a Nishiki, 90's model, taking up space in the garage.  Fixed it up a few months ago, and gave it away to somebody that needed a commute bike.

 

 

the model above is only good for a commuter, or maybe for somebody that wants one for sentimental reasons ....

Out MTBs were stolen, so I'm just thinking that someone out there might find these bikes more valuable than I do, no matter the reason, and every little bit that I can get from selling random stuff, helps with getting a new MTB for me mum.

Nishiki as we knew it in South Africa was a whole different experience to what it was in the US and UK.

 

Originally a Japanese brand I believe what we got in SA was a Chinese import and assembled in SA. I could be wrong but the same triple triangle clone from the GT frames didn’t actually exist.

 

The Rockhopper for example I can’t find any info on. Was a basic steel frame with SIS groupset.

 

The imported models I do remember some weird multi triangle frames with GS groupsets. This frame however was shared with other brands for example the Panasonic MC Comp.

 

Same scenario applied to Raleigh

Gift ur mum by cleaning and servicing the bikes so she can ride then again. Otherwise donate it to peeps who need it for commuting.

Will probably look at donating. Will speak to the 'rents.

 

Won't help fixing it up for my mum, since be both ride mtb and it's pretty technical terrain, so donating will be discussed this week. Doubt that it will be first choice though. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it.

I'd love one of those bikes, they are so comfortable and chilled out, just for a cruise around the hood. I'm not sure what tubing they used or how well they are made but they are nice looking frames, nice lines.

 

They are in pretty clean condition, if you do try sell them I'd chuck them on Guntree for R2k each and see what happens. Retro is smoking hot right now and I'm sure some ballie who had a landcruiser as a laatie and is now in upper management will be keen to buy them.
