I just got a new rook race 1 fixie and when i pedal it's making almost like a rattling/grinding noise by the cog?
I googled it and i think it could be that the chain and cog are not inline.
I measured it and its about 4-5mm off.
Should i take it back to the shop?

I have to assume you mean 4-5mm , not cm.?

if mm, it should be ok.

Check tension, might be to tight, also make sure its lubed.  then go for 2-3 rides and see if still noisy, might need to bed in a bit.

I have seen ROOK have a tendency to over-tighten the chain, this would be my gut feel for the noise....is the chain line is out by mm as you say and not cm!

If it's 4-5cm off then you may have quite a big problem  . It is quite simple to align if you want to try it yourself (only if going back is like a day long train ride )

how would i do it my self?

Loosen the chain a little, and lube it. It should bed quickly as pointed out by Karman.

Don't always trust Google. Try googling a medical self-diagnosis when you're ill:you'll swear you have a terminal disease.

I work in CT CBD and live out Table View way.
