Wow, so many... Cycling is certainly keeping the medical economy in a healthy (excuse the pun) state is seems.  Wonder if they have share in our trails...

Same here, badly fractured my wrist two weeks ago, plate/screws fitted last week, Friday, and now the road to recovery seems to be a long and winding one, but should be traveled with caution and patience.  Something I am also working on, much easier said than done, but in the bigger scheme of things, the right thing to do... (I keep on telling myself!)

A year ago I had a shoulder op. It wasn't cycling related but the orthopedic surgeon I went to was a cyclist. I was in the ward getting prepped for the op. There were 4 of us lying there waiting. The one guy had crashed that morning and was getting operated on same day. Another guy was having his plates removed, also from a cycling accident. Myself who was a cyclist but my injury was not from crashing. 4th dude was an old toppie who fell while walking. Anyway, the anesthetist comes round and has a short chat to all of us. After getting some background he tells us all that he loves cyclist' because they keep his business going. That was followed by an awkward laugh from the 3 cyclists and the old toppie almost fell off his bed laughing so much.

I'm in the same boat there brother.

Fractured the head of my radius bone (elbow joint) almost 3 weeks ago with a splendid fall.

elbow in a sling for 6 weeks at 90 degrees and then back to the Orthopaedic Surgeon for a follow up.

I'm guessing once I get to straighten my arm again, there's gonna be a whole lot more work before I get to hold onto my handlebars of my mtb with the vibrations on some of the trails

At least your fall was splendid. Every time I f&ck myself up it is just dumbass stuff

Off Topic, this is a good example on how to look like a chop because you don't understand social media.

OP: I am not saying you are a chop. Maybe go edit your 1st post.

Yes it is off topic...why does it bother you? do you feel better now calling a stranger a chop and yes you are calling him a chop. I am sure the OP will realize it along the way and elevate his social media skills to your high standards. If you cant be nice keep your bloody mouth shut.

A shock much greater than the broken clavicle is the receipt of the invoice for that titanium plate implant.

Son just had plate put in and bill came to R96 000 - eisch!! but covered

Yes, without very good medical and gap cover it can leave you a one winged bird or in a very deep financial hole. My scapula repair came to roughly R100 000! The theatre alone was about R50 000. Surgeon about R30 000. Aneathetist about 10 000 and the rest smaller stuff like ct-scans, x-rays and so on. Well worth arranging it through a good broker to make sure you are covered right and get all the benefits due to you.

Jorge Lorenzo broke his clavicle in a MotoGP practice on a Thursday, had it repaired and raced on the Saturday. It was Assen a few years ago... Oh... and placed 5th in the race... on a 200hp beast

Had the operation under general anesthetic ... so as to qualify 24 hours later and race on Sunday.

NO WAY I want to be awake during such an operation ....
