13km/h, Bah, that's nothing! Barely enough to cool you down on the climbs

thats only for PMB... Hillcrest at around 30kmh and Westville showing 35kmh... lets hope this is totally incorrect or turns into a tail wind.

That sounds more like the Amashova I know ;)

I’ll gladly take three days of tailwinds riding from JHB to PMB and a headwind on race day, than vice versus.

Be properly prepared (i.e. train for at least 100km, close to the intensity you will ride on the day) as fatigued muscles cramp, and muscle fatigue when they are overused and / or for longer periods than they are used to. But a bit too late for this now.

Make sure your bike is properly set up, in that your muscles work in unison, and not on their own, as this leads to fatigue and cramps. Also a bit too late now, muscles needs at least two weeks to get used to new position / manner of use.

Be properly hydrated on the day, but this does not start on the day, you need to drink sufficient fluids in the days leading up to the race.

As a last resort, drink supplements like Cramp Ease or similar, as it contains minerals that can delay the onset of fatigue.

Not an exhausted list, but some of the more obvious things.

Thank you all for the tips. A little late for some, I did try cycle a 100 km but I only managed 65 km due to time. I'll get a stash of all the supplements recommended. I should be better prepared for the 94.7

Who else from Cape Town will be doing the Amashova this year?

It will be my third, with the last one in 2006. This is one of my favorite races to do.

The Wife and I will be making the trip a mini break, airline tickets and hotel accommodation already sorted.

Lekker man lekker

I'm doing my third one this year. I must agree, its possibly my favourite currently.

Even have my wife entered for the 35km this year, although it seems there isn't transport to the start for them. So going to have to come up with a different plan, or she won't ride.

I wish I could get my Mrs back on a bicycle.

Done Shova a few times over the years, although only did the 106km once. Has to be my favourite road event in KZN.

KZN doesnt have too many road events, so this is a favourite for most of us.

yeah that was a good event, not too sure on the specifics but guess sponsors probably pulled out of it.

This is my favourite race, period. I enjoy the course with it's variety of terrain and views. The fact that it's also full road closure helps, just a bit.

Disclaimer: I can't ride my club's race and therefore can't call that my favourite event.
