Not a chance am I staying away from the RooiEls road. I love that ride.

I pay my taxes. I obey the rules of the road. I am just like any other road user.

Bite me ANTI-BAAISIEKEL, STRAND (to quote Marius).

Ek stem saam Velouria.

As jy jou bunch verpas, gaan dit jou tyd gewoonlik aansienlik aanpas.

My R2 vir vanmiddag want 2c is nou f*kk*l werd nie...

Ok, here's a NASTY idea....... for a future protest ride.

If they want to close the Rooi Els road for cyclists, just out of curiousity, whats the minimum speed on that road?

Why not make up a huge convey of cars, and ride the road at some stupid speed of 10-15km/h, with banners and flags waving..... "I'D BE FASTER ON MY BICYCLE....." LOLLOLLOL

Agreed 100% !!

And that is why there needs to be some give and take on both sides.

Because the 19-90 year old Mr/Ms/Mrs/Dr/Rev Anti-Baaisiekel is also a tax payer and also obeys the rules of the road.

It's just us cyclists that are conflicted, as most of us are also motorists.  Surely I am not the only cyclist who has been given the finger for having the audacity to give a brief 'Here I am guys!' hoot from a long way behind a bunch of cyclists, only to get the finger for my trouble?

A little bit of courtesy from those behind the steering wheel, and the same from those behind handlebars would go a long way to easing co-existence.

MWdeJager, add this to the scenario. I was away with Branco in the break for the last 25km of our race. The yellow line was full of short route riders, and no amount of asking 'keep left' helped, so we sat just the other side of the yellow line. Behind us is a commisaire vehicle, yellow light on the roof, stickers in the windows etc. Some motorists STILL came past hooting.

I'm sorry ANTI-BAAISIEKEL, but for those few seconds, your important life can take a fooking back seat to my race where I paid for traffic officials and marshals, and where you can SEE it's an event!

This is my usual argument with the suckers who claim that roads are to dangerous for cyclists. What is the usual motorists reaction when they are held up by a large truck instead of a cyclist(s). They don't take a chance overtaking when there just isn't space. They don't phone the trucking company complaining that the trucks are causing dangerous situations and they don't write selfish letters to the newspapers.

But when you are a softer target like a cyclist or even a scooter then you are it!

First it's the Rooi Else road, soon it will be the Simonstown - Muizenberg stretch, then it will be Chappies. Then finally Red Hill will also be too dangerous. Why? Because we accept the false logic rather than addressing the real problem which is *** ATTITUDE ON THE ROADS - cyclists included!
