ORCA Posted October 25, 2006 Share BRIEF, 25 Oktober: Hou fietse van die pad25/10/2006 07:03:41 AM - (SA)EK verwys na die besluit om nie weer trapfietse in grootmaat toe te laat op die pad tussen Gordonsbaai en Rooi Els nie (DB, 24/10).Daar is talle motorbestuurders wat sal glo dat dit die beste besluit is wat geneem kon word, en ek spreek die wens uit dat trapfietse op ?n permanente basis op hierdie pad verbied word.Trapfietseienaars het nou maar eenmaal nie respek vir voertuigbestuurders nie en hul middelvinger-gedrag is ?n bron van irritasie. Openbare paaie is nie daar vir misbruik deur trapfietse nie en hulle behoort glad nie daar toegelaat te word nie.Ek verwys na ?n trapfiets-byeenkoms wat die afgelope Saterdag (21 Oktober) gehou is op die Klipheuwel-Malmesburypad, en spreek weer eens my teleurstelling uit teenoor die mannetjies met hul stywe kleertjies wat sonder inagneming van voortsnellende voertuie eenvoudig in die rybaan ry.Ons het aanskou hoe ?n reuse-vragmotor na die oorkant van die pad moes beweeg en hoe aankomende verkeer drastiese maatre?ls moes aanwend om ?n ongeluk te verhoed.Op die Perdeberg-Wellingtonpad het die fietse die volle wydte van die pad gery. Verstaan hierdie trappers nie dat ?n ontmoeting met ?n voertuig van staal vir hulle baie onaangename gevolge kan inhou nie? Of is hulle so verwaand om te aanvaar dat hulle ?n spesiale spesie is? Seker ook 'n pensie groot genoeg om die oggend spekkies en pap in te ruig. Weet jy. Die Bybel s?....antwoord 'n dwaas nie in sy sotheid nie.Ek dink hierdie is een van daardie gevalle. As die ou omie of tannie maar net besef hoeveel skade sy motoraangedrewe voertuig aan ons buitelewe aanrig, om nie te praat van sy eie gesondheid nie, sal hy maar liewer stil bly.Dan begin ons nie eers met sy swak kennis rondom fietse se reg om paaie te gebruik nie. Siestog.....ek dink die siel moet maar 'n stille dood sterf. Die samelewing gaan hom/haar nie mis nie want dit is duidelik dat daar geen geduld of respek vir mede gebruikers van sy kosbare stukkie teer is nie. Ek wens ek kon hom hoor terwyl hy pittiglik in die kar gesit en stoom het.Interessant sien hy stywekleremannetjies se middelvinger- gedrag nie veel anders as wat sommige hubbers dit ervaar nie. If we don't sort this out, we are looking at cycling events being barred from all roads.With regard to the Gordon's Bay to Rooiels Road, the report which was about the triathlon not being allowed on it, stated that the speed limit on the road had been raised a short time ago. bikemonster Posted October 25, 2006 Share Hi Domenic I agree that cyclists need to be a bit more sensible, especially during PPA events. (I'm not sure if they're really fun rides or races.) On Saturday at one point the bunch I was in was spilling over both sides of the road, across a solid white line up a short hill. An overtaking vehicle came by, with its right hand side wheels on the grass. Fortunately there was no oncoming traffic, but that was due more to good fortune than anything else. The speed limit question is much trickier. I am a petrolhead as much as a pedalhead, and I am delighted to see that the speed limit has been raised on Clarence Drive. Since the road was originally planned it has been widened and motor cars have moved on a tad. Even where speed is a contributory factor to accidents, it is because a motorist is driving too fast FOR THE CIRCUMSTANCES. Most motorists will drive as fast as is safe. Problems arise when a motorist misjudges the circumstances, not when a speed limit sign has a large number pasted on the front of it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
