Climate Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I also thought this was a blunder ... initially, but SuperSport must have access to vast footage/photo files. So they must have done some serious searching to find a picture that's already more than a year old. This smacks of intentional?!!

The sponsers can't be to happy with this at all. i think you guys overestimate the photo stocks and visual achives of newspapers. that said, there is a certain laziness amongst the press these days. i remember years ago i worked on the shortlived sports daily called "sportsday". i was amazed how easy it was to gain accreditation to free photo services, and the amazing resources out there if you could just be bothered to look. i have also posted elsewhere on the hub that one of the obstacles facing cycling coverage inthe mainstream media is the cutting back on editorial staff. bean counters, in their infinite wisdom, decided many years ago that journalists needn't be sapient authorities on the subjects (sports) on which they report.
Sean Badenhorst Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Agreed HR. Mail and Guardian ran an interview with Sifiso Nhlapo last week and used pics of him in old SA team kit from two years ago. This despite Sifiso's manager handing the journalist a CD of current images at the interview and the journalist receiving current pics of Sifiso from MTN's PR agency on a regular basis. Magna Carta do the PR for Barloworld and send out pics of Hunter every time he does something significant. Often, the person that receives the press release isn't the one that puts the programme/publication together so the production person ends up doing a search for 'Robert Hunter cycling' and just uses the first pic he or she finds. Too much mediocrity in media these days. I hate mediocrity!

Poison Ivy Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 That Phonak-kit pic of RH was a BIG blunder....and there is NO excuse for it!! A while ago I had a serious talk to the S/C producer about something that was broadcast about the Tour D'Urban...which I believe was a big slap in the face to a very good friend of mine (OK, ex-friend now if he reads this ) and the condecending response I got from Mr Producer was even worse....the fact of the matter is, as I pointed out then and proven now again....somebody there is NOT doing his or her job properly.... Supercycling should apologise to Barloworld for showing that picture.....
Tumbleweed Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 who's robbie hunter? skinny dude, rides a bike, swears at kids, spits at rivals. poison ivy, it is a thing i hear about way too often. my boss at the paper i work for is quite insistent on putting in apologies when we screw up, but i've noticed a reluctance on the part of many editors to acknowledge their mistakes.
