I have been seeing YT prompting me to watch those for a while now.

I just cant to Alec Steel anymore, I used to love his videos until he started hitting the big subscriber numbers and everything started getting really fake and scripted. Now I cant take anything he does seriously anymore.

I also prefer his earlier stuff, before the move to 'Murica etc.....

If you enjoy this sort of stuff and you haven't heard of Mike Patey who builds his own planes, this is a wormhole you will get sucked into. Watch the link below and I challenge you not to watch the next episode.....

Mike and his identical twin boet hold many aviation records in home-built aeries and he has done two series on building specialist ones.

He built Draco (and totalled it) and there is a series on doing so. It cost a lot of money and a lot of time.

Here he is doing something different. Taking a scrapped Reynolds-tube framed Cub, and rebuilding it properly into an ultimate extreme back-country plane, on a budget, out of what he calls scrap parts. He does everything himself.

Check it out. This first episode talks about design considerations and then goes into the fabrication itself.

Where can you order Columbus and Reynolds tubing from in SA? Or which European distributor do local frame builders order from?

from your description I'm scared to go down this worm hole. I love self fabricated stuff.

I just recently binge watched all 31 (current) episodes of Project Binky.

For those that dont know project binky, its 2 guys in the UK who in 2013 decided to stuff a Supra 2l AWD motor and drivetrain into an original Mini.

The amount of time spent doing fabrication work and the thought and pre planning that has gone into it is amazing.

They have only recently sent the body in to be sprayed, 7 years later.
