And out of curiosity the Scott road frames cracked in a similar way but both top and bottom headset seat cup seats cracked. Have welded quite a few of them.

Yo don't think it would just crack elsewhere on the headtube anyway?

is it not maybe from your fork lowers scraping and bouncing against your bakkie while driving ?? need padding when racking like that.

I thought the same thing.

 

Personally, I would toss the frame. Can't see if it's a hard tail, but if it is, good used ones are dirt cheap.

 

Other wise, depending on the type of damage, maybe you could claim from insurance.

This is possible I did not think of that. Will not load them like this anymore thanks.

id say its more then likely .. headtubes cant really fail unless they put under unintended use . like loose headset , wrong size forks/angle . head on with a tree etc. Speed bumps and your bakkie + loose headset cups/rings will do aswell .
