Cracked head tube Scott Contessa

Good evening fellow cyclists

 

My wife’s Scott contessa has a crack on the head tube (just above where the front fork attaches to the frame).

 

Please could you recommend where I could get this fixed (in Johannesburg).

That’s the first time I’ve seen a crack like that. I’m sure a skilled aluminium welder can sort that one out but you will need to get the tube machined again to ensure the headset fits perfectly.

You need a new frame. If you bought it new you should have a warranty. Talk to a Scott dealer. You can't weld aluminium without heat treating it afterwards. Which no one does.

Thanks I bought it second hand but will get in touch with a dealer.

If bought second hand, best bet would be to find a frame and move parts across, that does not look safe.

If you do like her, I would write that frame off. Looks dangerous to me.

An Epic fix - a couple cable ties round the head tube and problem solved   .

 

Jokes aside, as others have mentioned, would look at a replacement frame as too risky trying to repair.

 

Is there not a possibility of a warranty claim?

He Fixed my Aluminium Frame and It's never cracked again.

If you willing to go through the heat treatment process I will be happy to weld up for you. If you not willing to follow the process I will refuse to do the job.

And out of curiosity the Scott road frames cracked in a similar way but both top and bottom headset seat cup seats cracked. Have welded quite a few of them.

is it not maybe from your fork lowers scraping and bouncing against your bakkie while driving ?? need padding when racking like that.
